I have his birth year as 1888 and also 1889 in his own handwriting. I usually add in the fact that most of these folks were not highly educated and take these things + or - a year or so..... but 10 years seems a bit much. Also did they need to fudge their years for some reason?
His WWI draft card says 1888 but his Union Pacific Railway application says 1889.

I do think this is the right marker. But I wonder could the year be wrong? I don't expect you would know this, but have you ever come across an incorrect year on a marker?
My grandfather was born April 1, 1888. I have lots of documentation that this is the correct year, but this marker says 1898.
Any Ideas about this?
