Bio and Links
Bio Photo It seems no matter where my family lived growing up we always lived within walking distance of a very old small cemetery. I grew up taking many walks through the cemeteries and reading the enscriptions on the old headstones and wondering what thier lives were like. So when I found this website I thought it was GREAT! I became a find a grave volunteer photographer and really enjoy traveling to all of the cemeteries around Iowa. I don't think many people are aware of the different kinds of unusual cemeteries there are out there! A little about what I do when I get a photo request: I first look to see if there are many in that cemetery listed on find a grave and I print out the list if it isn't very long. Then I go and take photos of not only the one requested but also of any others listed for that cemetery that do not yet have a gravestone listed. I will post the photo. If I have posted one on one of your ancestors and you don't want it there please just let me know and I will remove it! Also I take any photos of head stones with the same last name of the person requested and send them to the requestor if they are not listed on find a grave. The reason I do this is maybe the requestor doesn't know their ancestor is buried in that cemetery or they haven't gotten around to posting that person yet. This way they will have the photo when they decide to post them. Also if I have posted a photo of a headstone on your site please be sure to click on the photo because I always write down what the headstone says. Sometimes a given name might be spelled differently or the dates might be different from what the person has posted. And I will post what ever scripture might be on the stone that I can make out.

Mrs. J. Hamilton
There were two Mrs. J. Hamilton's.

The 1st was Ruth (Main) Hamilton
The 2nd was Elizabeth A. "Betsy"

This round headstone belongs to Mrs. Elizabeth A. "Betsy" Hamilton, and I believe you have it attached to the 1st wife, Ruth.

It should not be on Ruth (Main) Hamilton's memorial.

Thank you for offering to walk Finchford. This is an Ancestry message I received the other day about all this. It doesn't really answer the question, so it remains a mystery.

Ancestry msg from Jjdpa, 24 Dec 2013
We were confused by that also, so went to Finchford the last time we were in Iowa a few of years ago. We got to see the cemetery records and Ruth Main Hamilton was buried there, but couldn't find a record for John. It's a very old book and the early pages are terribly fragile. There is a modern stone for the two of them (Row 7, Lot 7, Grave 36) with dates. In Riverside Cemetery there is a stone for John with no dates right next to his sister-in-law , Lucinda Main Graham. Trouble is we didn't' know this was part of the Main bunch until much later and we've never been back there.
So, what I wonder is this: He died at his daughter, Mary Jane's house and she was from the first marriage, but there was also the daughter from the 2nd. Could there have been a disagreement on where to bury him and the latter daughter had the last word. If so, the first family might have wanted to show their father with their mother and so had the stone made or the two of them in Finchford after John's death. No proof of this, simply an idea I've had. The stone in Finchford has to be from the first family. Perhaps when John's stone in Riverside was never finished by the 2nd family dau. it was then that the stone in Finchford came into being.

Mrs J. Hamilton
This is about the headstone mention above.

Please the Mrs J. Hamilton headstone was not the first wife as I had indicated above. So, let's not add it to Ruth Main Hamilton's page.

This headstone for Mrs. J. Hamilton belongs to Betsy Hamilton of Riverside Cem. -Shell Rock, Butler Co, IA. This headstone is already placed on her memorial.

So please let's not have it on either John Newton Hamilton or Ruth (Main) Hamilton. It does not belong to either of them.

Thanks so much, Doni

John & Ruth (Main) Hamilton
Thank you for taking a photo of Mrs. J Hamilton's headstone who is Ruth (Main) Hamilton, but you have placed it on her husband's memorial page Find A Grave 49464028.

If you would please remove and add to Find A Grave 49464010.

Thanks so much, Doni

Is it possible to retake the photo and make the stone closer?

RE: Rudebeck photos
You were correct. A system quirk...

Rudebeck photos
I wondered why your photos are blocked from sight and from opening to view on my grandparents, Hans and Eleanor Rudebeck.

I have been deleting some old emails and am not sure if I thanked you for taking the Yearous gravestone photos @ Taylorsville. If I did, just consider this for all the work it takes to find and photo the stones. May you have a great holiday and new year. Keep up your good work.
