Stories of my Illinois ancestors were shared with me by my great grandmother Grace Ellen Smith Scanlon at an early age and this sparked a deep interest in genealogy and learning more about my heritage. After many years of library and Internet research I decided to visit the areas where my Smith, Rowland, and Wilkerson ancestors once lived. I've now made several trips to Illinois, specifically Montgomery County, and over the course of these visits have developed an interest in documenting cemeteries. My main focus is on abandoned family farm and small community cemeteries that are difficult to locate and are in the greatest need of being recorded. |
It's exciting to research how everyone in a cemetery is related to each other and I enjoy getting emails from descendants who have discovered pictures of their ancestors graves here on this fabulous site.
Closer to home my Mom and I are helping with photo requests and general clean-up at Grand View Memorial Park in Glendale and research at Morningside (Pioneer) Cemetery in Sylmar.
As part of my masters thesis I documented how the victims of the St. Francis Dam disaster have been memorialized. I am thankful for my many fellow find-a-gravers across the U.S.A. who helped me locate and photograph the grave of each flood victim so they are not forgotten.
I do my best to provide complete and accurate information in all my postings. Corrections are encouraged! I will gladly transfer memorials to family and I am happy share my photographs, but please give proper credit: "Ann Stoddard, Find A Grave #46964942". If I have offended anyone by adding their loved ones to the site please let me know and I will promptly remove the memorial.
I can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org

I've received a huge batch of updates on the Pioneer Cemetery from you in the last few days. Could you please let me know what the source or sources you are using to update the memorials, since there aren't photos available, and the records are limited? I'd like to include those references, and make it easier for anyone who is finding family there. Trying not to make assumptions, due to past troubles. Thanks for understanding.

Hi Ann - Thanks for the edit request on Rosa Olme. I've put in a photo request at both Glendale & Pioneer to help clarify, as the Forest Lawn online directory does not show Rosa's birth or death dates, and we've found that OCCASIONALLY those blanks have resulted because of an error in their records over the years. If you have more personal knowledge, or a death certificate, please let me know through an edit request, and I'll happily update.

I noticed you have been working on photos for victims of the St. Francis Dam disaster. I created several memorials for victims who are buried at Piru Cemetery and there are pictures on the memorials - if that helps at all.
Ann, thank you so much---again! You have such a generous heart, and I appreciate your transfer of Mary McWilliams' memorial to me. Libby

Oh my goodness, Ann! That is amazing, and extremely gracious of you. May I say, you are the kind of contributor that makes findagrave a wonderful site. I'm touched by your generous spirit.
If there's ever anything I can do for you please do not hesitate to ask. Thank you again!
