Ross Emerick, Comp PA
Ross Emerick, 45, Comp, PA farmer was found hanging from the hayloft of his barn yesterday morning. B. C. Dosch, Somerset county coroner, issued a verdict of suicide by hanging and set the time of death between 6 and 7 am
Dosch said Emerick's mother Mrs. Ettie Weightman Emerick, became worried when he did not return to the house for breakfast after going to feed the stock. Mrs. Emerick along with her daughter Miss Mary Emerick went to the barn to investigate. Mrs. Emerick said her son had been in ill health for some time.
Several weeks ago Emerick received a personal tax blank for the state and last week he received his selective Service questionnaire. His mother said he had been in a highly nervous state ever since.
Dousch said Emerick apparently climbed to the hayloft and after placing the rope, which was used to pull hay into the loft, about his neck, jumped from the loft.
Emerick a native of Comp had been operating the farm for his mother since the death of his father, Edward Emerick, several years ago. Mr. Emerick was killed in a mining accident.
Besides his mother and sister he is survived by 2 other sisters, Mrs. Lucy Shroyer and Mrs. Florence Devilbiss, all of Comp.
Emerick was a member of the Comp Reformed Church where funeral services will be held Wednesday. The Rev Adolpus von Kaske, Corriganville, will officiate. The body will remain at Ziegler's Funeral Home, Hyndman.
