I love exploring and photographing old cemeteries in Maine. I am especially familiar with Androscoggin, Cumberland, Hancock, and York counties. I am a Greater Portland History docent, photographer for Greater Portland Landmarks, a contributor to Friends of Evergreen, and a member of SpiritsAlive.com, the overseers of Eastern Cemetery in Portland, Maine|

Thank you Ben for the photo of Fred's gravesite and for the comment that he has no gravestone. Can you check your original photo to see if the name on the large central stone is MaMann rather than McCann? That would make sense since his mother was a McMann.

Thank you, Ben, for postings the requested photos at this cemetery way back in April.
|J Lawrence||RE: Grosses|
Hi Ben, I calculated our relationship and it comes up with 6th cousins twice removed. In your line there is a 49 year span between Joshua b. 1768, and his son John R. b. 1817. So I referred to the book: Vital Records of Orland, Maine and found they list Robert Oliver Gross and Edith Gray as the parents of John R. on page 215. I also found Joshua's birth and his children's births at the Orland Town Hall when I made a trip to Maine in 2003. Robert Oliver was listed as his child. I'm wondering if they made a mistake as often happens with handwritten records. Even the book has some conflicting dates in it.
The one birth that eludes me in my research is Simon Gross, supposed to be born in Boston abt 1650. A lot of info is posted in familysearch.org listing him as the son of Clement, who is the son of Isaac, the original immigrant in 1635. Still hoping to find someone who can verify Simon's ancestry. I haven't found a memorial for William Mains. From what I have from one person he may have died in Bath, Maine in 1954 but nothing solid.

|James||RE: Eugene Spencer|
Thank you for trying to locate Eugene's headstone. On his death certificate it states that he was to be buried I Evergreen Cemetery. Other members of his family are buried there. I had a couple other relatives/ ancestors who's death certificates said they were buried in a particular cemetery. It turned out they weren't buried there. Sometimes after a person died the choose of the cemetery changes for one reason or another. I'm going to have to do some research to see where Eugene is buried. Once again thanks for trying to find his stone.

Hi Ben, thank you for taking the time to go out, locate and take good headstone photo of Richard Pierce & wife. From the condition it seems to be in, it is especially great to have it recorded forever. Wishing you the very best, Donna
Thank you for contributing a source for more complete biographical information. I added your recommendation to his memorial site.
