Bio and Links
Bio Photo The descendants of the old settlers, those who cleared the land and first upturned the wild sod to the sun, should see that the doings of those early years are fittingly remembered and recorded.
It was once remarked by a great writer that those who take no interest in the deeds of their ancestors are not likely to do anything worthy to be remembered by their descendants.

Please leave flowers or memorials on my memorials, I believe everyone deserves flowers, and I have a great family. Thank you in advance.
A BIG thank you to those who send histories, death notices, obits and links to add to the memorials. They are wonderful additions.

Please read Find A Grave's Transfer Requirements before requesting a transfer "THE FIND A GRAVE GUIDELINES FOR TRANSFERRING MEMORIALS ARE: Spouses, Parents, Brothers and Sisters, Children, Grand-children, Grandparents, and Great-grandparents. Please use the "EDIT" tab to ask for a transfer BUT PLEASE do no ask for a transfer that is not within these guidelines and PLEASE STATE YOUR RELATIONSHIP TO THE DECEASED.
Putting requests on this site you will be ignored, and erased. Ignorance is not bliss it is just embarrassing for you.

For extended family members you can add

PLEASE USE the "EDIT" TAB ON THE UPPER RIGHT SIDE OF THE MEMORIAL TO SEND CORRECTIONS AND REQUESTS FOR TRANSFERS. Will gladly add any obits and will add links to family members. "

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out On polished, marble stone.
It reaches out to all who care It is too late to mourn.

You did not know that I exist You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our heart contracts and beat a pulse Entirely not our own.

Dear Ancestor, the place you filled One hundred years ago Spreads out among the ones you left Who would have loved you so.I wonder if you lived and loved,I wonder if you knew That someday I would find this spot, And come to visit you.

Jenny Thurston
Just saw your memorial for Jenny Thurston. Jenny was quite the character. She was a Spiritualist medium in the Golden Era of all this hocus-pokus. Her full title was the Most Reverend Doctor Jenny Thurston. During the teens & 1920s she operated out of Kalamazoo. But the summer months were reserved for Fraiser Camo - a large Spiritualist retreat South of Vicksburg, Michigan. Jenny was from a very prominent St. Joseph County family - the Cleveland family that lived in and around Mendon. Needless to say the family not impressed with Jenny's supernatural powers or fortune telling abilities.

RE: Enjoyed your message
Hi Barbara,

Thanks for writing.

About the burials without photos. My friend, Margaret R. Jenks spent her whole life transcribing the gravestones of Rutland County, VT, which she's published in books; and now, well into her 80's she's working on a book about the gravestone carvers. I have two sets of Peggy's books - one here in Los Angeles and another at our summer cottage in VT. I spend my winters here in CA researching the early families of Rutland Co., in tandem with my pal Dawn Hance, a historian in Rutland. And when I'm in VT during the summer, I photograph the gravestones of the people I've been working on.

So . . . in answer to your question about Samuel HowardIII and his wife, Anna: Peggy's book of Benson & Hubbardton Cemetery transcriptions indicates that Anna is buried in the Old Benson Cemetery and has a stone. In addition, the VR of Vermont, indicate that Anna was buried in there:

Vermont, Vital Records, 1760 - 1954
Name: Anna Howard
Event Type: Death
Event Date: 04 Aug 1822
Event Place: Benson, Vermont, United States
Gender: Female
Age: 83 y 26 d
Birth Year (Estimated): 1739
Burial: Old Cemetery

I can find nothing to indicate that SamuelIII came to Vermont, and in fact the book, Families of Early Hartford, CT, says that he died in Hartford, CT (I think, at least that's what my source notation says).

RE: Mabel Fox Andrews
Yes, it appears that contributor duplicated many memorials. They should definitely be removed or merged. This isn't my family, I was helping someone else with some local research on this family when I came across them, that's why I wanted to notify you. Yours were done first quite a long time ago.
