You are most welcome. Okay. Sometimes messages are missed. I
have a photo of the stone of Mildred Jones and the records holder
has now told me that Mildred Jones purchased the lot Clara is on. I
will find a flat marker there for Clara Manners, I am told. Probably
under turf and that is why I missed it. I will upload the stone photo
for Mildred Jones
Both Johnnie McGuires, father and son, are in this same area. The
records holder does not show them in the cemetery (???)
Go ahead and reinstate the request and I will claim it. There will be
a thaw starting on Wednesday and by Sunday the snow should be
You are welcome,
|Paul Sutton Kamalsky||RE: Clara Manners photo|
I asked you to email me the obituary of Clara Manners. The obit
may contain information telling me where she is in the cemetery
since associated persons may be buried with her. So far I don't
have a photo of her stone and I have photographed most of the
cemetery, doing many retakes in order to get perfect photos
Photos of both the Johnnie McGuire stones are not very good. A
flower pot too large to move is between them so I need the new
mirror to light them up. Currently there is a foot of snow on top
of the stones and it will be at least another week before I go to
the cemetery and find bare ground
Please reinstate your request and give me the names of persons
mentioned in her obituary

I just now found this and I'm not sure if I replied, so sorry if I did not.
Geraldine is the half sister to my oldest two children's grandfather, George Weston Davis, and sister to my current husband's mother, Shirley Ann Wilson. Geraldine, George and Shirley Ann all have the same mother.

Please email me the obituary of Clara Manners. I am photographing the cemetery
as a project

Hi Silvia, I agree that the dates seem unlikely. I have a relative buried in this Cambourne's Centenary Methodist Church that took me a lot of time and a lot of luck to find. That discovery got me to searching for other records for that cemetery since I am such a big fan of Findagrave, sort of hoping that recording these burials would help others in their journey of family history discovery. The link to the site I took this data from is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~chrisu/cornwall/cemetery%20index/index_ftog.htm
I suspect there could be an error in the cemetery reading or records from which this compilation is derived, but at the moment, this is all we have to go on.

Thanks for transferring the Jackson memorials. And I definitely will post another flower for Aimee's memorial, not a problem. She certainly was a sweet girl. I had the privilege of singing with Aimee in high school.
Also, I sent you an e-mail using the e-mail you left on the edit suggestion e-mail you sent but it was returned telling me that the e-mail address did not exist? I just thought you ought to know. Thanks for everything and stay warm!
|Dennis Holt||RE: George and Clara Jackson|
Not a problem. I did add the pic of their headstones to your memorials and deleted mine. Thanks for your work on this.
|Dennis Holt||George and Clara Jackson|
I would prefer if it is ok with you to maintain the credits for the photos taken. If you would transfer your memorials to the Pleasant View Church of Christ Cemetery and then allow me to delete my memorials and then add the pics to the memorials.
I did take these pics at the Church of Christ and not the Methodist Church.
Let me know when you transfer these memorials and then I will take care of mine.

I'll see if I can track Clara's siblings through Ancestry. If I find anything, I'll let you know. Also, will pass along whatever I find out from Macedon, NY.
BTW, in one of the Nashville City Directories, there's a listing for Robert and also one for Bob. Occupations for both are "driver." The addresses are not the same. Will look it up and send you the wording next time I'm on Ancestry. Have wondered if it's an error or if there could be a son named Bob. Have searched WhitePages.com for Robert Manners in Macedon, and have found at least one in the area. Seems like the age range would work for a descendant. I've been tempted to try phoning, but I've chickened out.
Probably won't do any more research this evening unless the Superbowl turns out to be really boring.

Hi Sylvia --
Thanks very much for the offer of the marriage certificate. In addition to Ancestry, I use FamilySearch.org as one of my sources, and I've found an image of their certificate there.
I don't know a whole lot about Clara or Robert, although I've found a fair number of Nashville City Directory listings for him (some including her name as his spouse) from around 1930 through 1955. After that, the only records I've found have been those Social Security Death Index listings.
Robert was one of 8 siblings (plus 2 half-siblings), most of whom grew to adulthood. However, few of them appear in the 1930 and 1940 census records, even though they lived in Nashville and did show up in the city directories. This was so consistent within that family that I have to wonder if they intentionally dodged the census takers.
I'm writing a short book about my branch of the Manners family, and here's the little bit I've done on Robert and Clara:
"Robert L. Manners provides another set of mysteries. In 1930, he married Clara Louise McGuire (1909-1998). He seems to have earned his living first as a peddler and then later as a cab driver. Again, census records for the couple are absent, and city directory records contain many gaps. For a long time, I wondered if their marriage had also gone by the wayside, since there are a number of years in which Robert's name appears in the directory without Clara's. I have reason to think this did not happen. Although I haven't found any information concerning sons or daughters, I believe there must have been at least one child and that he or she moved north, going about as far as possible away from Nashville.
Robert's last city directory listing was in 1955, and Clara Louise's was earlier than that. In terms of evidence, what followed was a virtual blackout of 15 years in his case and more than 40 years in hers. The next records that seem to be for this couple appear in the Social Security Death Index, which shows that Robert died in 1970 and Clara Louise in 1998. Strangely enough, the place of death for both was in Macedon, Wayne County, New York. I would assume I'd stumbled across a different couple with similar names except that the birth years were consistent with those I'd already found. Most important, the records for both indicate that they received their Social Security cards in Tennessee prior to 1951. There is nothing that reveals how long they lived in Nashville, if they became gypsies before settling in New York State, or even whether or not they remained married and relocated together. I feel the most likely story is that they had a son or daughter who lived in Macedon, and they wanted to spend their elder years with him or her. However, that is simply a guess. The truth may be completely different."
One question I have is about Clara's mother's given name. The census records I've found show her first name as Johnnie, but in your Find-a-Grave listing and on her marriage certificate she is Florence Mabel. So many of the other details match that I can tell these names are for the same person. Do you know the story behind her names?
I didn't intent to write such a long message. Hope it's a helpful one. Will let you know what I discover regarding Robert's death certificate
