Actually, there is another memorial for Jack at Find A Grave Memorial# 74840960. The manager is related to me and I have verified the date. On the 1880 census Jack is 1 year old so he was born in 1879 - not 1881 as listed on his tombstone. His military records (muster in roll - Corporal in the 3rd Tennessee Infantry in Spanish American War) his age is 19 in 1898 - so born 1879. His correct birth place is Sneedville, Hancock Co, Tennessee per pension records.
The Bio on this memorial is quite extensive. Most of it came from my father George Akard. One thing the bio doesn't mention is that Leo, Jack's wife died on George's 3rd wedding anniversary. The photo on the other memorial came from a post card sent from Goshen, IN to Indianapolis in Aug. 1909. It had 5 people, Jack holding Jack, Jr. Leona "Leo" holding George and Leo's sister Bert. The post card was sent to Leo and Bert's widowed mother Elizabeth Young. They wanted Mom to see the new baby before they returned to Indianapolis.
Jack told everyone that he was born in Baltimore, MD. They placed this on his Death Certificate and on the Marriage License application of his daughter. I've been to Sneedville, TN. I know why he didn't want to have it known he came from there. I will accept you generous offer to transfer my grandfather to me. 47426475 is my number. Thanks again. qashqai
