Bio Photo (John C. Carter)

(Will be spending part of the summer in southwestern Maine).

Happy to photograph at any cemetery in the Tampa Bay, FL area! (or in the Lakes Region of SW Maine).

Born in Dover, DE, (to parents from NJ & WV), I lived in southern CA until age 12, & then in Raton, (a small town in N.E. New Mexico), which I consider my home town. I attended NM State Univ for 4 years (with a 1-yr exchange to Oregon State Univ), but did not complete a degree at that time, & later moved back to southern CA, settling in the Orange County area. After 10 yrs in the O.C., I moved to St. Petersburg, FL (Tampa Bay area) in 1990, & have been here ever since.

I have avidly worked on my family's genealogy since the age of 15 ... 40 years this past summer!

I am a member (and former chapter registrar) of the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) with 7 qualifying ancestors submitted (more to come!), a member of the SUVCW (Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War) with 10 qualifying ancestors or brothers of ancestors (more to come!), a member of the SVR (Sons of Veterans Reserve--affiliated with the SUVCW), a member of the S&DUSCT (Sons & Daughters of U.S. Colored Troops), a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians of New Jersey, and an associate member of the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware.

(Click on the my profile pic above to read the story of the Civil War ancestor whose headstone I'm posing with).

I'm very proud that every single branch of my ancestry has been in America since at least pre-Revolutionary times.

Having taken numerous college courses over the years, I finally bit the bullet & enrolled in a program in 2003 to complete my degree, & graduated from Eckerd College (a local, private, liberal arts college) in May 2005 with a B.A. in Creative Writing.

Besides genealogy & writing, my other interests include: clock collecting, books, movies, photography, the Civil War, the space program, many types of music, & visiting cemeteries!

Thanks to the creators of this site for doing such a great job!

RE: Pearce family edits
You're quite welcome, and thank you for all the work you've done. One of the couples were neighbors and friends in the early-mid 1960's but I did not know anything about their family history. Very interesting!

RE: Kenneth Campbell
yeah, sorry about that, I am usually much better about getting back and thanking folks ---- sometimes I just get swamped with stuff and find filled requests when sifting through my zillions of emails! Gwen

RE: Marshal D. Spear #14133294
Hi John. I understand your concerns and appreciate them. I can give you a few sources for some of the information.

The 1900 census for St Petersburg, Hillsborough, Florida states Marshall was born in July 1839.

The Florida Death Index for Marshal D. T. Spear shows date of death as 1923 in Gadsden, FL. I don't understand the extra middle initial "T".
Perhaps it is another person.

The birth date of October 27, 1841 came from a family tree found on Rootsweb. This differs with the ages I've since found on census records.

For now, I will remove my comments on Marshal's memorial page until I do further research. I am as positive as I can be that Marshal is the son of James and Rachel (Merrill) Spear.

Thank you for your consideration and comments. I also have a great concern for accuracy. All your time and efforts on Find A Grave are greatly appreciated.

Thank you so very much for taking a picture of Florence's gravestone. It mean so very much. I met my aunt for the first time a few years before her death. I live in Utah and wondered if she had a gravestone. This brings closure and happiness. Very much appreciate you taking the time for me. Kathy

Burge photos
If you have a chance, could you please photo grave markers of my uncle and aunt, Raymond G. Burge and Kathleen E Burge in Meadowlawn in New Port Richey?

Have a great summer in New England.

RE: 2 Wilson Memorials
You are welcome. If you find more dups, please let me know. My distant cousin Vicki was really ill when she did a lot of her memorials. I have found dups myself and typos, so I don't mind the help::) Funny - read your bio - I was raised in Seaford and now live just south of NMSU! Small world.
