Bio and Links
Bio Photo I love the peace and quiet of cemeteries. (There are no telemarketers calling.) I also love taking pictures. The exercise is at my own pace. The stones are interesting, and they absolutely need to be documented before they are lost to the ravages of time.

I'm 10 generations forward from my Mayflower ancestor George Soule. I'm 13 generations from my New Haven founder Capt. Nathaniel Turner. 13 Generations is 1024 direct ancestors (doesn't count siblings etc.) My husband also has 1024 direct ancestors going back to the Mayflower. That's 2048 direct ancestors. I haven't found them all in the 40+ years I've been researching. But I'm still looking. Thanks to all of you members at Find a Grave, who are making finding their burial places easier.

PLEASE use the EDIT tab for suggestions, corrections and transfers. I'm happy to make changes, but I'm going to ask you for a source, if it's not directly on the stone. (Using the new edit system you can send source information through the "Suggest any other correction or addition" line.) The internet is a wonderful thing for genealogists but it's also very good at spreading misinformation, and I am trying very hard not to spread undocumented genealogy. That's one of the reasons I love Find a Grave, because I can look directly at a gravestone and see exactly what it says and don't have to depend on second and third hand information. Happy hunting.

PHOTOS OF GRAVESTONES. Please feel free to use mine, that's why I took them. I do like to get credit, though. "ASB"

PHOTOS OF PEOPLE. I've posted them to be enjoyed by visitors to Find a Grave. I was a little taken aback to see my mother's photo on Ancestry. So you're welcome to use them, for your personal use, but I would appreciate it, if you would avoid posting them to other internet sites.

Thanks for pointing out the duplicate. I thought I did delete it, but the site on my computer has been acting weird the last few days.

Yes, we probably are somehow connected with the Spencers. I also photographed the cemetery when I was in the area for the Boyd Family Reunion the end of June.

It's going to drive me nuts until I figured out the connection. I believe my line crosses with the Spencers and the Hills.

RE: Re transcriptions etc.
Re transcriptions etc.

I will not get into arguments with another volunteer over how each person sees his/her tasks.
It is a rule of the site that people stay polite and respectful, and you fail to follow these basic guidelines.
I will however, out of my own sheer courtesy, try to answer your criticism by explaining where I come from:

Your message:
A. Why would you bother to do a transcription on a stone, when the photo is perfectly clear and simple. "Really!!!" - John Smith died Month Day Year. Why waste your time and mine.

My response:
"What information should I include from a headstone?
All of the information on the headstone should be typed into the appropriate fields in the memorial form. It is not sufficient to create a memorial with only a name and a headstone photo and expect people to click on the photo to read the information that should be readily available in a name search, such as birth and death years."

This is taken from the site guidelines, and I have therefore concluded that information needs to be typed in rather than viewed on the pictures.
Likewise the ‘Marker Transcription' field should be used to specifically provide a full transcription of what is marked on the stone, not interpretations/conclusions thereof as I have found in several instances in this particular cemetery.

Your message:
B. "However, if there is already a photo of the headstone, a second similar photo should not be added unless the original is of poor quality and the new photo is dramatically better." - Quote from guidelines. I realize that many of the photos I took are not top notch photos, but most of yours are not any better.

My response:
Regarding pictures: I am having a difficult time reading stones and find that very often, 1-2-3 poor pictures help as they each give a different angle and sometimes help. There are many, many pictures I took that I have not submitted because they added nothing, but in several instances, I felt they did, and could help someone in the future. I find that pictures taken a few years earlier often show stones in a better shape and playing with pictures from different times helps decipher the whole message- even if only one word is at a better angle in a specific picture. Also, if you try to enlarge the pictures, many of them are too small to do so effectively; so I felt that adding larger pictures is sometimes also a desirable attribute. Hence the addition of some imperfect shots, which can be downloaded, enlarged, played with at different angles and lighting to help readers find the info they may want.

That being said, I am learning the process and have only worked with one cemetery before this one. I found, in this earlier case, that the administrator was useful, grateful and gave great guidance, in a very courteous and friendly manner. The way you are addressing me today is far from this and I fail to see how we can build on such attitude.

Your message:
C. You sent way too many at once. I've spent several hours, double checking and processing.

My response:
Here again, I fail to see how you can justify such a comment. I have seen no guideline about the amount of data to send nor about sending this in small increments. I also fail to understand what appears like anger, as I don't believe there is any deadline of any kind on your side, so if you take a year or a week to review all that I have sent, who really cares?

If there are guidelines about data limits, then please point me in the right direction and I'll be happy to comply. In the negative, I will continue to send in however amount of work I have prepared for the site in a way and timing that suit me. That is all you can ask of any volunteer.

D. A little addition of my own: when you pointed out earlier today that I may have the wrong picture, I was only too happy to thank you, correct and respond kindly. I am open to constructive comments, not to simple differences in opinion and open, public reprimands. We are neither in a schoolyard of underage children who don't know how to behave, nor am I your employee awaiting your review and orders!

Thank you for the heads up on the Dup. Turns out its Triplicated. I duped myself and someone else also duped me-and then transferred to me. So I've asked Find A Grave to merge the 3 Memorials.

thanks again!!

I went to this cemetery yesterday and took a gravestone photo of Mary Meeks d 1734. I saw that you linked her to her husband Stephen Mix d 1738...didn't take his photo yet. I wondered if the stone carver carved her last name misspelled...this confirms it!!

Not sure if you are related...but thought I would let you know that the photos are forthcoming.
Good luck with your genealogy,
