It is my goal to photograph and record all cemeteries in Barnardsville, Buncombe County, North Carolina. Most of these cemeteries contain my husband's kinfolk. What I've noticed while doing family research on my husband's line is that about everyone from Barnardsville in one way or another is kin to my husband. That's made it very interesting and on going. Or should I say on and on and on going! Oh well, that's what family roots is all about.....adding more and more people to your family tree. :) |
I've been researching my husband/my line for about 10 or so years now. It's so thrilling to connect someone to my husband's/my family tree. But what makes it really exciting is finding pictures to add to my research....Be it of the person or their tombstone. The pictures are like evidence proving they did/do exist! And there's no doubt about the info. you collected when it matches up with the info. you've found on the their tombstones (birth/death dates). Sometimes grave markers provide genealogical information not found in other sources!

Yes, there's a lot of great information in the Discussion Forums about photos, and in the Cemetery Preservation section there's threads about the damage chalk and shaving cream can cause. Basically Find A Grave has taken the stance they can't even recommend touching a stone unless you own it.
I sent some more linking information on graves in Ivy Hill, and added some photos too.
thanks again, Karyn

Thanks Christine, but it's not necessary to transfer the listing to me. I appreciate the offer though!

Is there any way to get this off Find a Grave? My sister is very much alive.

Thanks for the middle name and the photo :) I never can seem to get to that cemetery when I'm up there. Could you upload the photos to Aunt Helen's memorial also?
thanks again, Karyn

It's been much too long since we've communicated about my mother's uncle, J. D. Best!
I just came across this page: http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GRid=76117348
Lillie Mae had a sister? I had no record of her. I wish I had known about her since it looks like she died just a few years ago. Does she have any descendants?
Hope to hear back from you soon.

His full name is James Mead Anderson. I found the name James in some of the Georgia Ann Maney papers. I'm up-dating the Maney family's Eastern Cherokee Applications filed in the early 1900s. Georgia filed on behalf of her family.
I have a family tree on Ancestry.com "Dona Lynn Carr Family Tree" with the application papers attached to her.
