Bio and Links
Bio Photo A native of Louisville, Kentucky, I've lived since 1998 in the Historic Licking Riverside Neighborhood of Covington, directly across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. My primary interest for the last few years has been documenting the Grabinschriften of the German immigrants who settled in such large numbers throughout the Ohio River Valley, especially the members of the Deutsche Pionier-Verein. My favorite German connection is through my 9th-great-grandmother Marthe, Madame de Rocoulle (1655-1741), who was a Hofdame at the Berlin court of Friedrich Wilhelm von Preußen (1688-1740) and Sophia Dorothea von Hannover (1687-1757) and was the governess of Friedrich der Große (1712-1786), König von Preußen.

RE: Judge George Edelen Memorial
I appreciate your work on the Edelen genealogy. It has allowed me to correct the error of confusing Judge George Edelen with George Stonestreet Edelen in my own ancestry. One important piece of the puzzle I have not yet been able to confirm from birth, marriage, probate, and church records is the parentage of Judge George Edelen. I can find records of only three children of Christopher Edelen and Rebecca Johnson, their three daughters, Elizabeth, Eleanor and Rebecca. Would appreciate any guidance you could give me for pinning this down.

BTW, I hope to be able to get some additional photo requests done for you this summer.

Thanks for your help.

RE: Anna Maria Garthwaite
Hello Mr. Whitesides,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, I believe Miles is Ephraim's brother.

I've known about Anna Maria for years---12?---from a book about textiles in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. As I said, there doesn't seem to be any information about her personal life, but plenty of her designs remain in the museum's collection. If you do some research, would you please let me know what you find out? My work has just begun

Thanks again.

Anna Maria Garthwaite
Hello Mr. Whitesides---

I'm not adding something, I'm asking. Why did you add a page about Anna Maria Garthwaite? I am beginning to collect information about her in order to write a book. She was one of the top silk designers in mid-18th century in London's East End---Spitalfields, to be exact. There is very little known about her, and the years of her birth vary from source to source. My kinship with her is professional, rather than familial. I used one of her designs as a basis for one of my designs, during my professional career. (Retired now, and finally illustrating and writing full time.) While it would be nice to know where she's buried, it's not important.

The book will be historical fiction---I doubt there will be enough for a biography. I had the same problem with my first book, "Master of the Sweet Trade: A Story of the Pirate Samuel Bellamy, Mariah Hallett, and the Whydah." A fictional biography---so to speak.

Thank you very much if you are able to shed some light on this mysterious, but talented, woman.
