A native of Louisville, Kentucky, I've lived since 1998 in the Licking Riverside Historic District of Covington directly across the Ohio River from Cincinnati.|
This past July I visited Bartholomew County in Indiana, hoping to locate several of my ancestors' grave sites, repeating a similar trip with my grandparents back in the 1980s. In the town of Hope I found my 2nd-great-grandmother Lillie Sidener May (1867-1924), my 3rd-great-grandmother Sarah Ann Drake Rogers (1834-1911), and my 3rd-great-grandfather Daniel W. Gates (1826-1911). Just north of Hope in Haw Creek Township I was able to see the altered remnant of a house built in 1849-50 by my 3rd-great-grandfather Joseph Dawson Sidener (1819-1883), and in the churchyard nearby viewed his family plot where my 3rd-great-grandmother Martha Jane Trotter Sidener (1836-1917) is also buried. Then I was off to Flat Rock Township, where at Old Saint Louis Cemetery I visited the graves of my 4th-great-grandparents, Henry Lloyd Drake (1804-1872) and his first wife Julia Ann Harper Drake (1808-1838). Heading south to Clay Township, I next stopped at Sandhill Cemetery near Petersville where I found my 4th-great-grandmother Jane Fenton McFall (1794-1839) and my 5th-great-grandmother Mary Marsh McFall (1771-1837). Crossing back over Clifty Creek I stopped at Sharon Cemetery to see my 4th-great-grandparents Andrew B. Trotter (1804-1897) and his wife Julia Ann Mills Trotter (1811-1874), my 4th-great-grandparents George Washington May (1817-1894) and his wife Susanna McFall May (1821-1887), and my 5th-great-grandparents George May (1772-1857) and his wife Nancy Beeks May (1788-1843). It was a lot to do in such a short time, and I hope to visit again. Seeing where your ancestors lived and were buried certainly gives you a sense of connection to them, more so than reading about them in a book or online.

|Kelly Thomas||Mabius & Robison & Thompson & Brown|
Its been a number of years since we last communicated, but I'm glad to see that you're still hard at it. I recently noticed that you have posted several pictures of some Robison's on Find A Grave & they're lovely. It got me to wondering if you might have come across any others, such as Elizabeth Thompson (mother of Cora, who married John Mabius), or her husband, George Robison, or any of the Mabius clan?
I'm still pedaling away at the work myself, never slow down too much, wouldn't mind hearing from you, your cousin, Kelly Harrison Thomas, now in Houston, TX. Kellyhthomas@yahoo.com .

|Nancy Volle||Thank you for adding Mary Marsh McFall Photos|
Thank you for adding photos for Mary Marsh McFall. I don't know what the convention is for saying generations back of grandmothers. Counting my mother as 1 generation (1G) back. Mary Marsh McFall is 6 generations back for me. Her mother was Elizabeth Thorp Marsh. Have you identified Elizabeth Thorp Marsh as Mary Marsh McFall's mother?
The Thorp name shows up as both Thorp and Tharp and Sharp. My favorite references to the Thorp/Tharp ancestors is at http://bourboncoky.info/MarriageBonds.html where there are images of permission to marry and marriage bond for an Elizabeth and William Marsh's daughter's marriage.
It seems that the Tharps mentioned on that page may have been Elizabeth Tharp/Thorp's brothers. I have a few more solid references to Thorp/Tharp at that time.
Thanks again for photos. Nancy Volle (By the way, in my 40s I decided to take my great grandmothers married name. I was named Nancy after her. Her married name was Nancy Volle.
