Bio and Links
Bio Photo A native of Louisville, Kentucky, I've lived since 1998 in the Licking Riverside Historic District of Covington, directly across the Ohio River from Cincinnati. Much of my time on Find A Grave has been spent documenting the Grabinschriften of the German immigrants who settled in such large numbers in the Ohio River Valley, especially the members of the Deutsche Pionier-Verein. My grandmother Luetta Deitchman Crenshaw was active with the German-American Club Gesangverein in Louisville, and together we researched the families of her 2nd-great-grandfathers Carl Deutschmann (1800-1869) and Philipp Jacob Deußer (1815-1874). My favorite German connection comes through my great-grandfather Henry Lloyd Rogers, continuing through my 6th-great-grandfather John Demoss (d. 1815), who operated a ferry at the mouth of the Great Miami River near North Bend, Ohio, then finally back to my 9th-great-grandmother Marthe, Madame de Rocoulle (c.1655-1741), who was a Hofdame at the Berlin court of Friedrich Wilhelm von Preußen (1688-1740) and Sophia Dorothea von Hannover (1687-1757) and was the governess of their son Friedrich der Große (1712-1786), König von Preußen. Marthe's first husband and the father of her children was lieutenant-colonel Isaïe Dumas de Montbail, a descendant of François II de Bretagne (1433-1488) by his mistress Antoinette de Maignelais (d. 1471).

RE: John Denman
Todd,

Thank you so much for answering my query. I must say that I do like your theory, and you are the first that I am aware of who has found a John Denman in the Retford area at the correct time period, something whose previous absence has been a stumbling block for many. Thank you too for all of your efforts over the years to reach this stage in your research. Please keep up the good work, and I hope that someday soon you will be able to find the 'smoking gun' that corroborates your conclusions. Take care and have a great day.

John
