I'm a lifelong resident of Sussex County, NJ with long and old roots in the area.|
My mom told me about this site while she was doing research on some of our lesser known family lines and when I checked it out, I was hooked. I have greatly enjoyed taking my trips to the cemeteries and enjoy helping others fill in the blanks in their family trees.
The majority of the memorials I have created are the result of the headstones I have photographed. As a result, the information I have is often limited to whatever information was on the headstone. If you have any information to add, please let me know and I will be more than happy to add it to the memorial. Or, if you are a family member and wish to have the memorial transferred to you, I will be more than happy to do so.
The website link goes to my Flickr account, which contains albums with my cemetery photos. Feel free to browse and take what you need for research purposes. But, please give credit where credit is due. There may be photos on there that I haven't posted on this site. Any questions please feel free to ask.
Family names I'm looking for include: Demarest, DeMarest, Courtright, Cortright, Simmons, Card, Crill, Predmore, Swartswelder, Kinney, Struble, VanHorn, Mabee, Mabie, Vanderhoof, Beck, Kirkhuff, Babcock
and from my husband's family, Blackford, Tidaback, Heater, Raser, Lambert

|M (Walker) Climo||Mary Alice Heater Hotalen|
I am the Great Granddaughter of Mary Alice Heater and Albert Edmond Hotalen.
I was reviewing the Find a Grave memorial for Mary Alice and her date of death is incorrect. It should be August 18, 1955. My mother kept very accurate records on the family, both sides. My father was the son of Russell Vail and Bessie Elizabeth (Hotalen) Walker. Both my mother and my older brother have told the story of my great grandmother’s passing.
The family used to live in Branchville and during the flooding of 1955 from Hurricane Diane, Mary Alice suffered what was said to be a heart attack and with the flooding, rescue could not get to her, she passed away. And due to the damage from the flooding, the funeral procession had to take a very circuitous route to the cemetery for her final resting place in Hainesville, NJ.
I’m curious, is the date incorrect on her headstone, as there are no photos on the grave web site memorial.
When my mom passed away in March of 2014, her “lil black book of family information” was passed on to me. There is a LOT of informational notes.
I also remember the Dudgeon family was out west, in California. We took a trip out there when I was a teenager to visit. That would have been my father’s Aunt and Uncle “Mighty” Dudgeon.
I hope that you find this information useful. I’m all about family history.
Feel free to keep in touch! We are family.. somewhere along the path!!
