Note: Information about Jacob and Mary Stauffer Varnes and some of their descendants has been taken from the following family history:
THE GENEALOGY OF THE JACOB LEIGHTY FAMILY OF FAYETTE COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA by Floyd H. Leighty, Sr., Jan. 1980.
Special thanks to Julie Oliver for recording tombstone information at Bethel Christian Church near Anabel, MO, which has been used in some of the memorials.
Records of Ken O'Neal have been invaluable in creating memorials in East Liberty Presbyterian Cemetery in Vanderbilt, PA.
Elizabeth Ellsberry's Cemetery Records of Macon Co., MO, 1963, has been a great help for memorials in Macon Co., MO.

I try to follow the FAG guidelines concerning obituaries.

The question of initials in proper names has recently come up. I am trying to follow the FAG guidelines of using a period after a middle initial: "Concerning punctuation in proper names, always use normal English rules, such as always use a period after a Middle Initial."

RE: Laura Sheets
Dear Anonymous,
Thank You for the email question.

My opinion:
In Laura Effie (Tucker) Sheet's bio change "Wife of A. E. Sheetz" to "Sheets". Then delete the information that I shared about WWI spelling change.

That should work---unless---the headstone of Laura Effie has the name "Sheetz". Then, there needs to be an explanation.

Thank You for your continuing contributions.

P.S. I have asked for the linking of couple more of Laura Effie's children.

Dear Anonymous,

Perhaps it would help to add a note on Laura Effie's memorial that around WWI the last name "Sheetz" was changed to "Sheets." I did not know that fact until reading it this afternoon.

I located one child and have requested that edit.

RE: Patrick R. and Rachel Farley Dowling
I would say they are probably correct in the burial place, so I think that would be appropriate . I would guess that at some point Dowling's owned the ground where Old Callao Cemetery is. The owned most of the ground on that side of the tracks.

RE: Patrick and Rachel Dowling
Over the last year or so I have come in contact with other descendants of Patrick Dowling's children. Two of them have been told that Patrick and Rachel Dowling were buried in the yard at their home in Callao, Mo.

Well, man, did I make a mess of that DOD!! :( I had mistakenly entered the DOD of Mary Lee Fletcher Salyer and as for the name--guess I used his dad's twice :( I so appreciate your asking so politely if I was "wrong" and I am grateful you found that big faux paus, I have now corrected it. Thank YOU for YOUR help!!!
