Bio and Links
Bio Photo Some names of interest in my own family line include Lowther, Thistle, Milne, Henderson, Zirkle, Tedrow, Briix, and Blythe, my great-grandparents' names. My husband's family names include Doan, Corder, Dokken, Tangen, Goff, Allen and Peterson. Please send corrections/ updates; I want things to be accurate.

My grandmother, Wanda Zirkle Jilka, and great-aunt, Veda Zirkle Vickery, compiled a book commonly referred to as "The Red Book," "Zirkle Branches 1725-1978, Yesteryears and Yesterdays." There are several copies for sale if anyone is interested. It mainly outlines the history of two Zirkle/Zerkel branches which left VA, went to OH, then settled in Richland, Shawnee Co, KS.

"Life is not separate from death. It only looks that way." Blackfoot Quote

"A Visit to the Gravesite"

Dear Ancestor,
Your Tombstone stands among the rest,
Neglected and alone.
The name and dates are chiseled here,
On polished marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care,
Though it is too late to mourn.
You do not know that I exist,
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you,
In flesh, in blood, and bone.
The place you filled so many years ago,
I wonder if you could have known,
Would spread among the ones you left
In all the seeds you've sown.
I wonder if you lived and loved?
I wonder if you ever knew?
That someday I would find you in this spot,
And come to visit you?

Ellie's Grandma
RE: Ina
Yes, that's right. Her mother was a distant cousin and I was really happy to learn where they were buried. Her maternal grandfather has a memorial in IL, but no marker (and I'm not certain that the info is right there.) I'm related thru Louisa (Leach) Hager's mother.

Thanks again!

RE: Abraham Vickers and Mary France
One of the perks of being self-employed.....I have posted the great-great grandson of Thomas Vickers on my site of Find a Grave. I have been to the cemetery in Burton CO, IL where William Vickers (#130145566)is buried with his wife Anna Reeder (#13014337) as is their daughter Margaret Vickers and her husband Richard William Richards, but someone else already had them on Find a Grave if you want to check them out. I come from the Richards line through my paternal grandmother Sibyl Richards Keown. Hope you find this interesting. I am retired so I can spent waaaaaay too much time at this!

Fantastic information! Thanks for your super-speedy reply. If I find out anything more about the family, I will be sure to share.

Abraham Vickers and Mary France
Good morning, Becky. I am also a descendant of Abraham Vickers and Mary France and I was wondering if you can share with me the sources confirming Abraham's birth in New Jersey in 1691. I have not been able to find a definitive source. I am also curious to know anything you might have to share about Abraham's parents Thomas Vickers and Esther Borden. Thanks for your willingness to share.

Hi Becky,
Are you related to the Doans in Elmview, Howland Twp. Manitoulin Island? My g-uncle by marriage was James Albert Doan and is buried in Hilly Grove Cemetery on the Island. He was first married to my g-aunt Lizzie Humphrey.

Re: George Siedhoff
Hi Becky,
Glad you enjoyed the information about George Siedhoff. Take a look at my information about the Old Mission Mausoleum. George was the general contractor on that 34 year project. We have made contact with each other in the past and I thank you for your help and support.

RE: William & James Doan(e)
I'm very sorry to hear that the information is missing. We were surprised to see how many unmarked sites were at the cemetery. I'm not sure if the cemetery administration would have any additional information or if you've contacted them already - just a hopeful suggestion. Thanks for the messages letting me know you saw the photos.

Mary Ann Loss
Hi Becky,
I have transferred the Denis family to you as I am not related. And that was before I saw your note about the obituary. Please add it at your convenience as I no longer have access.
And would you kindly consider adding photo requests for both of them? There's a team of photographers working in Fort Leavenworth National Cemetery and they like to fill photo requests.
Take good care,
Mary Ann
