Bio Photo Recent trip to Hunter Cemetery, Maury Co. Mt. Pleasant, Tn. Two large trees have fallen and one missed the McGee memorial by about 2ft. Another tree fell and has destroyed the ts of Richard Stockard and about 6 others around it.
Wayne Austin and I are trying to get volunteers to go there and moved the trees and repair the stones that are damaged/destroyed. Any suggestion on how to resolve this problem would be greatly appreciated. A photo on the memorial of Richard Stockard will show part of the damage.

Born and raised in Lewis and Maury County, Tennessee. Member of the National Society of Children of the American Revolutionary War.

Maury Co., Tn has many historical cemeteries. Many Rev. War soldiers are buried in Maury Co./Lewis Co. Tn., also many Civil War Generals, War of 1812, and their soldiers.

Cemetery preservation is very important to me and I try to list from actual cemetery visits and various book listings. I have been working with Wayne Austin for the last 10 years as a volunteer contributor for his project.
Please, e-mail me with any corrections or additional information that needs to be posted at any Maury County Cemetery where you see my name via the edit option on the memorial.

If I have posted a close relative of yours let me know and I will transfer. Please use the edit option on the memorial for updates, corrections and questions, my responce will be much faster, I don't have to look up the memorial by name that way.

RE: Malcolm Gilchrist
Hi Mary Bob,

Thank you for your reply.

I did speak with Ephraim McClain the day I was in town. Jerry Kennedy gave me his phone number and Ephraim call me back when I was at the cemetery with Jerry, who had escorted me there.
u
Ephraim told me there was a new grave marker, which I was very glad to hear about. He told me exactly where it was.

So, I was very happy to visit the grave site with new marker, rather than having to also visit Courtland, Alabama.

I do want to thank you for your efforts on behalf of Find a Grave and the John Hunter Cemetery!!!

For your information, in case you are not aware, when I was viewing the original deed records of Malcolm Gilchrist's purchase of property in Mt. Pleasant, I noticed, quite by accident, that the very next purchase record was by Ephraim McClain in the year 1809.

This record can be found at the County Courthouse records in the (an) annex. The Malcolm Gilchrist purchase is on Micro-fiche in Book A-volume 1, page 167. On that same cartridge are book 0, then 00, then book A, I believe the first records in the County. The Gilchrist record is 2 pages, so the Ephraim McClain purchase is, I believe, on page 168.

If you need it, I left all my contact information with Marva at the Museum.

Thanks again Mary Bob. I really appreciated your information as well as all the help I got at the Museum from Marva and Jerry, and subsequently, from Ephraim!

Warm Regards,
Baron Malcolm Reed

Malcolm Gilchrist
Hello Mary Bob McClain,

Yahoo!! There is a new grave marker for Malcolm and Catharine Gilchrist in the John Hunter Cemetery. Many thanks to Marva Hudspeth and Jerry Kennedy at the Mt. Pleasant Museum for their invaluable assistance. Also, it was Ephraim McClain who was able to tell me there was a new grave marker, and exactly where it was.

And, of course, thanks to the other descendants who are presumably from Courtland, Alabama for providing the very beautiful new grave marker!

Malcolm Gilchrist
Hi Mary Bob McClain,
I am a descendent of Malcolm (8675130) whose grave marker has been moved from Hunter Cemetery in Maury county, Tenn. by a "relative", to Old Courtland Cemetery in Courtland, Laurence Co. Alabama. I'm from California, currently in (4/16/15) Memphis and will visit both cemeteries soon.

Do you have any contact information on the relative who moved the gravemarker(s)? I would be happy to give you my contact information so you or they can communicate with me. It would be best for me to use the phone at this time as I'm on the road.

Thanks for any help you can give.
The site said I activated my account, but i don't have an account number and have not been able to log on???

Malcolm Gilchrist of Cantyre, Scotland , born 1744 is my great, great, great grandfather.

Thanks,
Baron Malcolm Reed

RE: mARTHA Chiles Diana Cem.
No, she was born Chiles, married John D. Jones, seen as Lucinda in her father's will:

Tennessee Probate Court Books, 1795-1927
Giles County
Wills, 1869-1896, Vol. B, page 299
13 February 1877; 03 March 1879

To my nine children or their legal heirs Francis Caruthers, Nancy Moore, John Chiles, Paul Chiles, Sarah Collins, Henry Chiles, Ann Hicks, LUCINDA JONES, Rowland Chiles. Now after my death I want all of my property both real and personal to be equally divided between the above named children or their heirs, likewise I make, constitute and appoint F. M. Kersey to be my Executor to this my last Will and Testament, revoking all former wills made by me, and require the same F. M. Kersey to give Bond but no security required and the said F. M. Kersey is to be well paid for his services.

One of her children does give her name also as Martha, but that's the only time I'd seen it, so would guess Martha Lucinda makes sense to me, although all I don't see any sign of the name Martha on her stone.

My e-mail address IS pa-ha-kin@austin.rr.com. Make sure you use a hyphen (-) rather than an underline (_). I think beginning capital letters or lower case letters works.....(Pa-Ha-Kin@Austin.rr.com)

I will appreciate your trying again.

Thanks!
