No transfers will be made by you providing me a list of #'s. A note for each memorial thru the EDIT icon is the way to go. |
Recently I have had bad handling of some of the memorials I have transferred. This has made me second guess the belief that the memorials are best with family. I will make additions / corrections that are sent to me. I will also transfer within site guidelines.

Thank you for what you did. You must have done work on everyone in the cemetery at St. Luke's in Hohokus and I have just duplicated your work and photos. My uncle Hugh John is also buried there with his parents Hugh and Frances--without any additional marker.

THANKS SO MUCH

My Grandfather is William Walsh. The only sibling of his that I actually remember is his brother Eddie. Eddie's daughter, Betty says that I favor Frances..she saw a picture of me on Facebook.Unfortunately, I don't remember Frances ~

I don't know who you are, but I want to THANK YOU for your work on Find A Grave.
Jan Koman was my 4th gr-grandfather. It is enormously helpful and gratifying to find so much information on him and his family here!
Again, thank you.

Re:Your Hugh Duffy FindAGrave ID number 78290438
and My Hugh Duffy FindAGrave number: 94452841
Hi, Cindy. Thank you for your very quick reply.
I came across your posting on FindAGrave in the winter and it truly intrigued me. I believe that my (great grandfather) Hugh Duffy is the same because both had the same name, passed on the same date, August 1, 1895 and at the same age, 29.
Using the information in your post, I found a pdf that has the history of the firehouse your Hugh served in. I copied some information for my/our Hugh from it. The document details the beginning of the fire department before Brooklyn got it's current name and also mentions when & how the station burned down in 1896:
"Bay Ridge Engine 241, a History of Service"
This is what we have found on him so far:
Hugh Duffy – one of 13 children, only three of whom lived to adulthood.
B. Jan 1866 at 135 14th St. B'klyn
Baptised: 14 Jan 1866 St. John the Evangelist by Rev. Hugh McGuire
M. to Agnes McGuire [possibly related to the Reverend?]
D. Aug. 1, 1895 about 3 am
Cause of Death – from death certificate #:
1) Phthisis pulmonaris – pulmonary tuberculosis
2) Asthenia Dyspnoea – Asthenia = refers to weakness, struggling to breath
Place of death: 781 4th Ave, Brooklyn, NY
Occupation at death: Liquor dealer [it's on the death certificate that I posted as a photo on FindAGrave.]
His wife, Agnes McGuire, died soon after in 1904 when the children were 4 (my grandfather), 3, 1 – possibly from tuberculosis as well. The 3 children were split up among other Brooklyn relatives. His son, my grandfather – Walter A. Duffy- became a NY policeman & detective.
I have yet to find out where in Holy Cross he is buried. As there were so many members buried there, from both my father's and mother's side, that I am going to make a long list before going there or contacting them.
I can retract anything you wish from my post at your request, as my fire dept. addition was made on an educated guess. Is there any way to confirm my suspicion that they are one and the same? How can I research old fire dept. personnel records?
Thank you for all your very hard work and I apologize for being so wordy in this email. I haven't been on FindAGrave recently so am not sure what you meant regarding the edit icon.

Hello. I believe that this is Hugh Duffy, FindAGrave id# 94452841.
Hugh owned a liquor store. He died from pulmonary tuberculosis Aug. 1, 1895, at age 29 (he had it for 1 yr),leaving a widow and 3 children, ages 4, 3, 1 [she died in 1905 and other family took the children in. 2 of these children had descendants.]
Thank you for posting your information. - Deb H., also a FindAGrave member]
