Wendy, I noticed the same list on the web that spells the surname Shaeffer, which is correct. I wonder if it was then incorrectly transcribed Sheaffer in subsequent lists. Any way to contact the church to see which spelling is recorded there?
Thanks for all the burial information! You are a dear! As I suspected, Barbara Shaeffer was born in 1761, not 1781. You have Mary listed as born in 1798 but the stone says 1788. Is that a typo in your list to me or can you confirm the record says 1798? Wouldn't be the first time a record and stone disagree with each other!
I noticed the one lot is owned by J. Groff Shaeffer. Perhaps that is where the middle name "Groff" came from? I did notice the spelling difference of the surname as well. I think that happens a lot!
Are the records for this cemetery available online? If not, can you look up Sarah "Sadie" Gutshall Shaeffer in the cemetery records for me? I believe she is buried with her parents, but her memorial says w/o John G. Shaeffer. I am trying to get evidence that the John G Shaeffer is indeed John Groff Shaeffer.

Can you confirm if the monument in your photo on Memorial 69723529 (John Shaeffer) is the backside of the monument in your photo on Memorial 69723609 (Samuel Shaeffer)?
I am thinking that John is Samuel's father.
I am slightly confused, too, by the links to the TWO wives of John Shaeffer (69723529). Something doesn't seem right. It seems to me that the date on the stone records that Barbara was born in 1761, not 1781, and therefore would be quite old to be a wife to John, who was born in 1784.
I am thinking that Barbara may have been John's mother, perhaps, and his wife was Mary, who is listed under him. Any thoughts? I will write the memorial creator to see if they can clarify the mystery.

I was wondering if you would allow me to use your photo of the gravestone for John Groff Shaeffer and his wife, Anna B. Shaeffer on my Ancestry.com tree. I will be sure to give you proper credit.
I was also wondering if John's middle name, Groff, was in the cemetery record or if you found that in another record?
I will be forwarding to you via the edit function the maiden name for his wife, Anna.

Thanks much for the edits on the memorials for Jacob Henry Smee and his wife Caroline Spencer. Much appreciated and good to see memorials developed links made. Amazing how with a couple of links the number of other links that pop up for siblings, etc. ... the great web of kinship?

That's okay, Wendy~ You've spent so much time & energy on these that I was sure you'd want to have it correct. Keep it coming...I really appreciate it!
I don't suppose you're related to the Kunkel family?
|Kathy S. Addis||John & Elizabeth Shumbarger|
Thought you might like to know that John & Elizabeth Shumbarger were the parents of John F. Shumbarger (1876-1877), not John & 2nd wife Sallie.
The son John was b.1876 and Elizabeth d. 1878. Sallie d.1887. Also, If you enlarge the picture of the son John's stone, it says son of John & Elizabeth Shumbarger. Thanks for all your work on Find-A-Grave!
