John Rogers
RE: Wm Dossett
Jennifer, my connection with William Dossett is through his daughter, Martha Ann Dossett 12/18/1814--11/25/1860 who married William James Hamilton Sr., they were my wife's great great grandparents. I did not realize they might be connected with the "Rogers" line. I would be interested in learning how they might be connected. Please let me know. I am connected with a lot of the Rogerses from Covington County.

I see you have him in the Ed Sullivan Cemetery. I did not see a stone for him but that happens a lot, as you know. Do you have a source for his being there?

RE: Stewart/Bishop
Hi Jennifer,

For John's wives/children I have:

Married to Melvina Emily Bateman Higginbotham (full name was provided by Lou Gary Stewart, Willis' son.) Married about 1894 by the census information John provided and they had the following children:

Katie Mae "Addie" Stewart 1895-1978

Azalee Stewart (died young I believe, but I don't have a record of this; just that she was born 1898 and by 1910 she isn't living with John and Lonnie. )

William Alonzo Stewart 1898-1988

He then married Emeline Pilgrim by a document Lou provided me, which is a document for the court granting her/John permission to marry because of her being underage.. This was about 1901/2? (I'd have to check the document to know for sure). Lou said she became pregnant and her and the child died in childbirth I don't have documentation on this yet.

Then John married Lonnie and had the following children.

Fred A. Stewart 1905-sometime before 1977 (he's not listed as a living sibling in Mutt's obituary)

Annie Leona Stewart 1908-

Pearl Stewart (1913 - 1981; my mother actually has some memory of her.. She said she remembers when she was a little girl going with my grandmother Glenda to see "aunt Pearl." Supposedly aunt Pearl ran a little flea market/antique shop type of business in Meridian.)

George D. Stewart.

Johnnie Alexander Stewart 1918-1997

Nannie Sue Eliza Stewart 1919-1982

Mutt 1925-1977

Pettis Combs "Kit" Stewart 1926-2005

Willis Raymond "Willie" Stewart 1929-2000

RE: Stewart/Bishop
I believe George, Kit, and Mutt were all pretty close- at least relatively close. Sadly I didn't have much personal experience with my Stewart family given my grandmother and grandfather divorced when my mother was young and for a long time he would not allow them to see their mother.. She moved all across the country, from MS to California, Arkansas, and Missouri- she also spent sometime in North (or South?) Carolina for awhile.

I have reconnected with some of them since i started doing genealogy however. :)

I would have loved to met him, I was in the Meridian area but I moved to Colorado Springs back in October. My mother is still in that area, as are my aunt Diane (the only child of Mutt's still living) and her two children.. I believe aunt Alice (Kit's wife) is still there and some of their descendants but most of the other Stewart's I think have spread out- I've found them in A lot of the northern states, Texas, NC/SC, and some of Mutt's grandkids are on the Alabama coast.

I think George's son Ralph is still alive and lives in Meridian, is that right? I've never met or spoken with him, just come across him before looking for information on others.

Do you happen to recall George's middle name? I only have his middle initial as "D."

RE: Stewart/Bishop
Hello Jennifer! I am related to them. The Stewarts are my mother's maternal line. John and Lonnie's son Jim Thomas "Mutt" Stewart and Ruby Lee Reed were my great-grandparents. Their daughter Glenda Earle Stewart is my grandmother.

Nice to hear from you.

Ok, I wasn't sure if you were matched up to the Colvin line before Ellis

RE: Adelade Colvin
I am confused on where your bloodline match is...
I do doubt Martin Merritt is Ellis' father
In 1875 Adalade at age 15 is listed as living in the household of David Meade and his family as a servant in Bethlehem, NY
In 1880 Adelade is listed as servant, single, with her son at age 2 in the household of Charles Shear and his family in the town of Coeymans, NY

Martin Merritt and his wife Lydia had no known children. Martin's will left his entire estate to his wife and then divided up among his nieces and nephews... no mention of Ellis at all. I assume Ellis moved to Mississippi at age 18 which would have been in 1895, the same year Martin Merritt wrote his last will, he died in 1897.
He had a large family based on his will, I am doing a tree for him based on this information and see if any other Merritts moved to Mississippi.
I am certainly curious as to who exactly your bloodline matches to

RE: Adelade Colvin
ok wow... well, Like I said Ellis Colvin was her only child. Adelade's family, Parents, brothers, sisters and all of their descendants have been in New York for over 250 years, a few moving here and there.
Maybe these names may help:
Ellis Colvin Merritt (1887-1927) married Louise Cooley (1886-1971)
their children
1) Robert Merritt (1902-1903)
2) Beatrice Merritt (1904-1998) married Simon Parker (1905-1954)
3) Annie Louise Merritt (1905-1985)married last name was Lancaster
4) Helen Merritt (1907-2001) married Homer Doulas Mann (1909- 1961)
5)Wynette C Merritt (1912- ? ) married Daniel Cameron

Those are the only known lines that you would descend from

Adelade is my 3rd great-Aunt.. I descend from her brother Francis
