I have been doing genealogical research since 1984. I retired from the Air Force in 1994. I recently became a volunteer of RAOGK (Random Acts of Genealogical Kindness) for Somerset County, Maine. I am a member of the Maine Old Cemeteries Association, the New England Historic Genealogical Society, and the Buckfield Historical Society. I am also Historian and Past Commander of John D. Long Post #58, American Legion, Buckfield, Maine. I am a son of Donald Mackay Cooper and Ruth Marcelyn Hersey.
REUNITING FAMILIES ON FINDAGRAVE
Findagrave is an excellent way to reunite families by linking them together. Most families are buried together, so finding where they are buried helps to reconstruct families. Linking them together using the census is also helpful. I have a few "trees" on ancestry.com that I use in conjunction with my findagrave research. Not everyone can afford membership to ancestry.com, so linking families together on findagrave can help more people find their lost kin.

I feel that we can make more meaningful memorials on FindAGrave if volunteers can work together instead of using the "Family First policy of Four Generations" as an excuse to keep memorials from being corrected...
TEAMWORK TRANSFERS
If you are afraid of making transfers (I guess in the old days people would delete the transferred memorial) there is an alternative to the long and tedious process of having the other contributor "spoon feed" the information to you. Do a "temporary transfer". This is done the same as a normal transfer, but with the understanding that once the updates and links are made, it gets transferred BACK to the creator. This involves TRUST. It is best to do just one memorial at a time. If it doesn't get transferred back... NO MORE SOUP FOR YOU! "Fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me!" Please, give it a try. There are so many "inactive" volunteers these days, the rest of us need to be able to work together and not bicker. When you click on [Transfer Management] the instructions state: "This action is PERMANENT and can not be undone." This is misleading. The PERMANENT implies that it will be lost to you FOREVER. That is true only if it NEVER gets transferred back to your control. The other aspect of TEAMWORK TRANSFER is that the person who contributes the research can add their name in the bio or notes with an embedded link. Contributors who say they will add information that you send to them don't always credit their source. They don't want others taking credit for the photos they post, but they don't think twice about taking credit for other people's research. Just pass it off as their own.
I have been working on families in Maine in the early 1800s, about the time that Maine became a state separate from Massachusetts. Many of these people seem to have gotten "lost in the shuffle", so I am trying to find where they are buried and link the families together.
I also have a "permission slip" from the Public Affairs office at Togus to take photos of the gravestones of the Disabled Volunteer Soldiers from the Eastern Branch of U.S. National Home that are buried in Togus National Cemetery.
UNKNOWN BURIAL LOCATIONS
Some people won't link to "unknown burial locations". A lot of old gravestones are "lost" in old cemeteries that have been neglected over the years. "Roots" helped to renew interest in cemeteries back in the 1970s. Old "lost" cemeteries are still being discovered as old family homesteads are being sold in this depressed economy. The families who lived there may have known about the old cemetery, but nobody else did.
Many of those old timers passed away long ago. We often know when and where they lived and died, but just don't know where their gravestone is. It is irresponsible to just stick them in any old cemetery in the town that they died in. It is a sure bet that SOMEBODY will request a gravestone photo and then someone else will go off on a "wild goose chase" looking for the gravestone.
When "unknown burial location" is used, there is always a risk of "duplication" if the gravestone is ever found in the real world.
VIRTUAL CEMETERIES
By the way... these are all "virtual" cemeteries... this is the internet! Any resemblance to "real" cemeteries in the "real" world is purely coincidental. Right now Findagrave is more like FOUNDagrave. If they don't have a gravestone still standing... they didn't exist!!!
Just my opinion. Opinions are like rectums, we all have one... and the older we get the harder it is to keep from hearing them to ourselves!

Just talked to city of Augusta and the city record shows C. W. Smith. A photo was just recently added - and I'm still not totally sure which is correct. The city as no dates for him.

Thank you so much for the pictures of the Vigue children's headstones you took in Pine Grove Cemetery in Waterville, ME. Also thanks for adding in their parents, Henry and Clara. Clara is my great-great-grandfather's sister. We're wondering how you were able to add so much biographical information for them and for their daughter Miriam. Is there some resource you consulted? We didn't know about Clara's marriage to Leroy Kitchen, but are very grateful for all the *extra* info you provided beyond just taking the photos. Neat, I learned something else! Sideways related! That is something I have not heard said before!
Ancestry calculates my relationship to Hannah to be that I am 1st cousin 5 times removed.
We are also related to the Allen family, back to George Allen 1580 & Katherine Starks 1604, assuming I have my connections accurate!
Also, James Allen who married Elizabeth Partridge of 1643 and daughter of George Partridge 1617 & Sarah Tracy....
Sometimes I feel as if we are all related to one another, and then other times, I cannot locate a connection (if there is one) for YEARS!
It is all so fascinating!
