For almost thirty years I have been involved in genealogy. When my mother died, she left some notes about a few ancestors she had uncovered and hoped I would continue her research. That was the hook-in-the-jaw that changed my life. I only regret that I have missed out on so many years that I could have used. Alas, all those family stories that went in one ear and out the other, and all those family members who took so much information to the grave with them. |
I am, however, thankful for the tools that are now available and for FindAGrave, a platform that I have spent many hours gaining from and contributing to.
If I have created a memorial for your family member, who isn't related to me, and YOU CAN ADD MORE INFORMATION, I will be glad to transfer it to you. However, many have received a transfer/transfers & have never added anything. This isn't fair to kin who may come along later who can do so.
An exception to the above are my Bell, Dodson, & Love ancestors and kin, most of whom have numerous descendants. Much of the information contained in their memorials is the result of many years of tedious research, and as new information comes to light, I would like to be able to make those changes. For these memorials please follow FindAGrave guidelines for transfers.
I will no longer respond to transfer or up-date requests that are sent to me on the Message Board. Requests sent this way many times have errors and often slow things down.
Instructions for ALL REQUESTS for corrections, additional information, or transfers:
1. Go to the memorial page, which has an "Edit" tab located on the upper right side of the memorial.
2. Click on the "Edit" tab, then click on the Suggest a correction or provide additional information link, which opens a message page.
3. Type in your message.
Making a request this way insures that no mistakes are made, because it takes me to the exact memorial.
Thanks for your understanding.

|Joe Patterson||RE: DeHaven Information|
Those three spellings are the ones used. Since the space is the only real difference, I list them all as DeHaven. Many of the stones show a space but that seems to me to be a choice of the cutter, not necessarily the way a family actually spelled the name. The way several family used the name changes from one to the other over the generations.
BTW Wesley and Louisa already have memorials on Find A Grave. Gainesboro Methodist Cem, Gainesboro, Frederick Co, VA. It seems to be known by several names over the years.

West is the child of Rachel DeHaven and unknown mate. Rachel died a few years after Wesley's birth and he was raised by DeHaven grandparents.

I think I have.
|A Butterfly||George and Rachel Shults|
The memorials have been put back up on A car's page. Thanks ever so much for all your help!
|A Butterfly||George & Rachel Shultz|
Thank you so very much for their obit. I don't have a clue why it was never put up, however I went to the contributor's page and saw people were contacting them 3 or 4 times. It appeared messages were not posting. I did come across a reference to Cornelia Farris and behind the name of Cornelia was (Farris, Dennis). Now I don't know if she married another Farris or a Dennis! I'll contact Find A Grave and see if the obits can be put back up, either by them or you. Happy you kept a copy. Thanks for all your help!

At one time you had their memorial pages. I'm not clear about the transfer of their obituary, which was transcribed from a newspaper, but that has never been put back on their page. They are buried in the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Newton. Do you still have a copy of that obit? Trying to locate where their daughter Cornelia is. Thanks for all you do.

I like your walking house.
|Mike Kropp||Dorothy Kropp Bente|
Hi Virginia, I just found your recent post on Dorothy's grave. I am trying to determine if she is my 2x Great Grandfathers younger sister. Some of the info I have found seems to indicate that, but I have no definite proof yet. If you or other Bente relatives would like to discuss, please leave me a message. Thx Mike Kropp

Glad I could help out, Virginia. I always get a great deal of satisfaction helping others with their genealogy. Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving!
