Bio Photo (John C. Carter)

(Will be spending part of the summer in southwestern Maine).

Happy to photograph at any cemetery in the Tampa Bay, FL area! (or in the Lakes Region of SW Maine).

Born in Dover, DE, (to parents from NJ & WV), I lived in southern CA until age 12, & then in Raton, (a small town in N.E. New Mexico), which I consider my home town. I attended NM State Univ for 4 years (with a 1-yr exchange to Oregon State Univ), but did not complete a degree at that time, & later moved back to southern CA, settling in the Orange County area. After 10 yrs in the O.C., I moved to St. Petersburg, FL (Tampa Bay area) in 1990, & have been here ever since.

I have avidly worked on my family's genealogy since the age of 15 ... 40 years this summer!

I am a member (and former chapter registrar) of the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) with 7 qualifying ancestors submitted (more to come!), a member of the SUVCW (Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War) with 10 qualifying ancestors or brothers of ancestors (more to come!), a member of the SVR (Sons of Veterans Reserve (affiliated with the SUVCW), a member of the S&DUSCT (Sons & Daughters of U.S. Colored Troops), a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians of New Jersey, and an associate member of the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware.

I'm very proud that every single branch of my ancestry has been in America since at least pre-Revolutionary times.

Having taken numerous college courses over the years, I finally bit the bullet & enrolled in a program in 2003 to complete my degree, & graduated from Eckerd College (a local, private, liberal arts college) in May 2005 with a B.A. in Creative Writing.

Besides genealogy & writing, my other interests include: clock collecting, books, movies, photography, the Civil War, the space program, many types of music, & visiting cemeteries!

Thanks to the creators of this site for doing such a great job!

Family tree
It is not so much the family tree as the burial unknown others add. When I walked cemetery's and add all the names, someone moves the unknown and tells me to delete mine. I just feel they should stop adding 1000's of unknown and do some real work to find them.

Thanks for letting me know about the duplicates. I went ahead and deleted mine since the other memorial had so much information and he is a relative of the contributor

RE: Your photo request for Donald Tetu
Thanks. Since you made that comment, I did a global search for him. I found him at Woodlawn in South Berwick, deleted the memorial I created for him, and linked him and his wife. Thanks for making me go a step further, and the very nice photos you put on his wife's, Shirley, memorial.

RE: Alva P. Ledford Bowling
Yes, she is my grandmother. I grew up just over a mile from her and grandpa Bowling. I lived with them for 6 months when he fell off a hay stack and broke his arm. Yes, you can transfer it to me. And I already completed one for her husband John. My mother lives in their house now where she was born.

I just started doing these so it is a bit cumbersome until I get the hang of it. It seems there is delay from creation until recognition but perhaps that is incorrect.

My Bowling family descends from Pocahontas? Is yours the same family?

Petrey
I have transferred Dabner and Eveline Petrey over to you. My great grandfather was a Petrey but so far all of mine are over in Whitley Co. I do not have Dabner or Eveline showing in my family tree.

Hi John,

I transferred Franklin and Elnora to you. They are not relations of mine. Thanks for claiming them. :)
