Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been researching my family history since I was in junior high school, and was very fortunate to have access to a lot of family records. As a child I was extremely scared of cemeteries, but as I grew in to my teenage years and became more intensely involved in my research, I found myself tromping through a lot of cemeteries. Unfortunately, I found so many monuments that were barely legible, and thought then I should try to transcribe as many as possible so that others could find their family members too. Though I have been researching for over 30 years now, I am fortunate that I still find new cousins quite regularly. I hope that some of my postings will help others to find their relatives.

If you find anything that needs to be corrected, please let me know, and we will resolve this together. If you are a family member of one I have transcribed, and I am not, I will be happy to transfer your family member to you. I believe family members should be able to take care of their family memorials here, just as if you were taking care of the actual cemetery regardless of how closely you are related.

If you are a "cousin" I would love to hear from you and exchange information. Some of my direct family surnames are: Borders, Botner, Harman/Harmon, Houchin, Jackson, Pearman, Peery, Short, Smith, Taylor, and Thorne on my father's side and Benke, Clark, Denisiuk and Piper on my mother's side. And my husband's side include Matuse, Privette, Davis, and Boykin.

And lastly, if you would like to copy any pictures, please let me know, and if you add it to a family tree, please note it came from me. I have seen many of my photos on with no mention that the photo was mine. Thanks.

RE: Davis Family Cemetery
Lisa, take SC 34 from Camden toward Bishopville about 15 miles, turn left on Hubb Kelley Rd,, go about 2 miles past a lake and turn right onto Singletary Mill Pond Rd, go past Berry Rd on left, you will come to a sharp 90 degree turn to left, the entrance to the cemetery is on the right. You can see it very well on Google Map if you blow up the aerial map

Thank you so much for your work. It has been 20 years since I have looked into any of these records. I am confused by a picture of the monument; PYLE - BALES
sister mother father
Mary E Maria William C
1866-1960 1867-1951

Who is Mary E. ?
My mother is a Bales and one time told me she remembered going to a graduation party for Ernie Pyle. Did he have curly red hair?
Thank you, #48338737

RE: Mary Pearman
Hopefully it will turn up someday. It's possible he was poor and was buried in some sort of potter's grave, too.

My great grandparents Stella and Clinton (Charles' son) Pearman were both supposedly buried at Bourbon Cemetery near Tuscola (their death certificates both state this). However, there are absolutely no markers for them, and the cemetery doesn't even list any burials in 1924 (when they both died). I know they were very poor people, so I guess it's not too surprising.

RE: Mary Pearman
Thanks. I do not have another copy of that write-up at this time though.

Also, FYI, Maggie Straight's place of burial is listed as "Tuscola" in the Illinois Deaths and Stillbirths Index, but unfortunately, no exact cemetery is listed.

I find it bizarre that no one has ever been able to track down Charles "Charley" Pearman's exact date of death or place of burial. From reading newspaper writeups from while he was living in Tuscola, it sounds like he was a fairly well known individual. I wonder if he moved late in life to some other area? Just speculation on my part.

RE: Garrett's
I've only requested the one Mary Garrett she would be my great-grandmother. the rest are aunts and uncles--but main interest would be her. I've requested on her memorial. thank you.
