Welcome! Just to let you know, most of my family roots are in Kentucky; so, if related, I am more than happy to transfer the memorial pages I have created. I love to reunite families with their loved ones. If needed, feel free to use the photographs I have posted on Find A Grave for your personal ancestry documentation. If so inclined, you can always give credit for the source.

I stumbled upon the following poem and thought it was so succinct in describing why we do what we do. . .

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.
Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.
Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.
Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hallowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.
Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.
Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.
Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

Hi, under normal circumstances I would be happy to delete a duplicate memorial. However in this instance I don't believe that would be the proper thing to do. The memorial I created is where her actual burial site is located. Unless the name of the cemetery has changed over the years, the other memorial is listed under the wrong cemetery. But thank you for letting me know. Cheryl

RE: Goodhope Cemetery
The Poem you have on your page is beautiful...The words are so true. As I went to the cemetery on Fathers Day, there were so many I wondered about in that cemetery. Please do not hesitate to call. Since we didn't meet when I lived in GA maybe we can make it in KY..

I recently noticed you had uploaded pictures to Jabez Carter and noticed the date of Mar 2015. I was just wondering if you were in KY at that time or just uploaded the photo's at that time...If you ever get to KY again, please let me know so we can meet up and chat for a while..

Thank you very much for the very important correction of my error. I appreciate your input. He will soon likely (2016) be candidate for the National Law Enforcement Memorial in D.C and Kentucky LEOM in Frankfort, KY. The name correction could not have been more timely.

I believe the newspaper account spelled his name as I had it. It most likely would have been caught before his induction. They research candidates throughly but sometimes there are mistakes made.

Lt. John Shreve

Do you happen to know if Lt. John Shreve (unknown mother)was the father of my great grandfather, Ebenezer Shreve. Ebenezer was born 17 Feb 1817 in Cookstown, Burlington County, New Jersey (same as John Shreve). Ebenezer died 8 Apr 1901 in Abilene, Dickinson County, Kansas. Like John Shreve, Ebenezer migrated to Ohio but Warren County. He later moved to Missouri and then Kansas. Thank you!
