23 / SAN JOSE & MANTECA, CALIFORNIA|
I am currently working with the Chinese Benevolent Association of Stockton (CBA) to document the Chinese Cemetery in French Camp. If you have any questions about this cemetery or how to support it, I would be happy to answer your questions or direct you to someone who can.
I have also done a lot of work surveying and caring for CENTER CEMETERY (Pontotoc County, Oklahoma) where many of my grandmother's relatives are buried. This cemetery is very close to my heart. Please contact me if you have any information or questions about it.
Even though I am a younger gravehunter, I have been a member of FindAGrave for over 10 years...a lot longer than most of the people who make the most fuss here. I have seen this website go through lots of changes, especially concerning the attitude of members and how people use this site. With that being said, just be patient, enjoy this site for what it can provide you, and appreciate that your relative or friend is being honored by having a memorial at all!
As the grandson of a veteran from Oklahoma and another veteran from the Philippines, I have a special interest in documenting the graves of Oklahoma vets and Asian-Americans.
I was blessed to grow up with many of my grandparents' siblings and cousins, who were some of the most special and important people in my life. Some of them have passed away and become my special angels in Heaven. If you have a chance, please visit my Uncle Millard (who got me interested in cemeteries and genealogy), my Aunt Emma, my Aunt NaOla, and my Aunt Bernice, who just passed away recently.

I received an email from http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=mr&MRid=47360748 in regards to a duplicate memorial for this person. I see on my memorial (dated before yours, and flowers left that you are her grandson). I would have transferred it to you, so now I want to know How do you want me to?

Thank you Brandon and best of luck with your work. Jeff
Regarding Johannes & Anna Herr Borckholder/Burkholder. If you would kindly add ALL the links and information that are on my two memorials (Johannes Burkholder & Anna Herr...same cemetery) to your two, I will be happy to remove my memorials. Also please show both the spellings for the family name which will be very helpful for family genealogists.
Thank you again.

Don't you feel a special pride in our heritage?
I've wondered about prejudices that they may have faced. Nothing was ever said, except the fact that grandma was ostracized by her family for a while. This couldn't last as apparently the women of her family had an affinity for good looking Filipino men, a few of her sisters followed her lead.
On grandpa's death bed he revealed there had been an older son they had given up for adoption. Was this due to social pressures? Grandpa wouldn't say anything else about it. It bothered my mother for the rest of her life that she had a brother out there and no way of finding him.
Your note brought to my attention the fact that I am missing the wedding date for my grandparents in my family tree info. It is going to be interesting to get a date as mom was born in '33 and I've always assumed they were already married. That said, I have their wedding photo, and I've always thought grandma looked "old" in the photo. I've written to my last surviving aunt asking for a date.
This is another good bit of the fun related to grandpa. He was so very special and unique he leaves us unable to describe him properly for future generations.
Thank you for your comments. You've stirred up some questions I'd like answered.
