|I was born in Crockett, Houston County, Texas in 1950 and I grew up there among my family and friends. I attended Crockett public schools until I became 16, at which time I left Crockett to attend a college preparatory school, St. Mary's Hall, in San Antonio, Texas.|
Upon graduation from high school, I entered the University of Texas in Austin, Texas where I enrolled in the College of Liberal Arts and studied Spanish and history. I graduated from UT in 1972 with a B.A. degree in Spanish and history. I spent my Junior Year in Valencia, Spain where I lived with a Spanish family and attended the university there. I speak Spanish fluently.
I retired from public education in 2009 after 32 years experience and now devote most of my time to family and travel. I am currently applying for membership in the local chapter of the DAR in Katy, Texas where I've lived for more than 25 years.
As a native of Crockett and Houston County, I can trace my ancestry back to the first of the Goolsby line who arrived in Texas in December 1839. John Goolsby was a successful farmer who no doubt found the fertile land and abundant timber of East Texas to his advantage. He and Rebecca Ellis Goolsby settled in northern Houston County and raised a family of nine children, six boys and three girls. At that time Texas was a Republic and Crockett was little more than a supply stop on the way to San Antonio. Without the hard work and pioneering spirit of these early ancestors and so many others like them, I would not have the rich heritage that I enjoy today.

Re: your request that I delete the duplicate memorial
I transferred it to your management. Because mine was the original entry, it may require some reconnecting to his wife, so I'll just turn it over to you. You can delete it however you like. I also transferred Margaret to you.
