Live in Maryland; summer in the Adirondacks. Write historical articles for Weekly Adirondack in Old Forge and appear on www.adirondackalmanack.com , am interested in Adirondack and Fulton Chain historical figures, of whom many are in Oneida and Lewis Counties and other NY cemeteries, many now inactive, often in obscure locations.|
I work from my cemetery photos, then linking the graves through Ancestry.com trees, and newspaper sites such as www.nnyln.net and fultonhistory.com. I often contact ancestry trees to let them know I've found their family members, especially if I've used their trees to confirm or help link family members on findagrave.
There is always a chance for errors and happy finger typos. So please do not hesitate to let me know if you find something needing correcting, have more family connections or question the links I've made, using the "Edit" tab on the memorial.
If you find I've added a photo where one was already present, I often take photos to get the whole stone and a closeup for clarity or to get the family group of stones. If I find a photo of part of a stone and I have the entire stone , if the back of stone is shown without the front, I will add my own to the benefit of the memorial and the deceased's family who may not be able to go to that location.
In like manner, if someone has a better, clearer photo than mine, please add it and don't hesitate to ask me to remove mine. Please contact me and I will be glad to do so for this any other reason.
I don't add to existing photos to replicate what is there or to add to my statistics. If you believe mine repeats what you've added without additional benefit, please ask me to remove mine and I will do so promptly.
Rather than add memorials from listings, I add memorials from walking the cemetery and taking photos.
Anything I add to findagrave is intended to be used by you.

Thanks for your edit for maiden name & quick response to my note for links. I appreciate your beautiful photos on the Murtaugh sites. Richard

I appreciate your input. Be careful with Ancestry. I have found a lot of bad info on there. If they have sources that can back up their stuff, I go with it, otherwise, sometimes they guess where a person died. They usually assume they died in the place where they were living last on a census record. That is not always the case - as in Zada. She died at her daughter's in Carthage, Jefferson, NY. I will give credit - no one guessed her death location on Ancestry but I can't tell you how many people I have found died elsewhere - some out of state - and people have them dying where they lived. I don't trust Ancestry but I use it as a place to start. I have learned that mistakes are made just about everywhere. But if I have it 99 percent right, I feel good.

Hello CHerr, We have a little mix-up and it's not your fault. I am the niece of Lewis Goutermout (the spelling is correct on his stone, but wrong on his mother and father's stone). The correct spelling for our side is Goutermout, but my grandfather's brother spelled their last name Goutremout - same family - different spelling. It causes all kinds of confusion.
I also created a memorial for Lewis Archibald Goutermout #156727835, so we have a double listing for him. I have added his obituary, a picture, and links to all his relatives. I believe it would be easier for you to delete your listing and then add the gravestone pictures to my site. If this does not work for you, or you have another suggestion, please let me know. Sorry about all this confusion. Gladys

Zada Amanda Smith is my husband's great-great grandmother on his maternal line. Everything I can find on her is Zada. I never saw Alzada - even on census records although it is possible that Alzada is her real name but she always went by Zada. All that shows up on her Find A Grave memorial is her death year - 1923. Does the obits give a date of death? I would LOVE to know when and where she died. I'll have to figure out how to navigate those links you posted. Many thanks again for all you do.

I can't thank you enough for all the work you are doing for myself and others on Find A Grave. I've been able to find many obituaries that you posted of my husband's maternal family line. It's been a JOY!

That would be awesome!
My Find A Grave ID: 46857866
Do you want me to go to their memorials and request it that way?
|Jane Marie Morrison||RE: findagrave edit program|
I was NOT aware of this! How awful! I'll be on the look out for now on. Thank you so much!

You are welcome for the photos. It was easy to find because I recognized the monument in the background of his wife's marker photo.

Please, could you replace the obituary for him. Thank you so much for your help.

You sent a message to add Alpheus's wife as his mother. No changes need to be done.
