Bio and Links
Bio Photo I'm a dedicated & fanatic family historian & have been on THE QUEST since 1955. I can concentrate on my ancestors but get easily side-tracked by in-laws & the cousins of cousins of cousins, if you know what I mean, & if you love family history as much as I do, then you do know!

"As we think well of ourselves, let us remember that we are standing on the shoulders of the generations before, for if they had not come, we would not be here."

"A US military veteran is someone who, at one point in his/her life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to and including my life.'"

By Thelma Greene Reagan

Today we walked where others walked
On a lonely, windswept hill;
Today we talked where others cried
For Loved Ones whose lives are stilled.

Today our hearts were touched
By graves of tiny babies;
Snatched from the arms of loving kin,
In the heartbreak of the ages.

Today we saw where the grandparents lay
In the last sleep of their time;
Lying under the trees and clouds -
Their beds kissed by the sun and wind.

Today we wondered about an unmarked spot;
Who lies beneath this hollowed ground?
Was it a babe, child, young or old?
No indication could be found.

Today we saw where Mom and Dad lay.
We had been here once before
On a day we'd all like to forget,
But will remember forever more.

Today we recorded for kith and kin
The graves of ancestors past;
To be preserved for generations hence,
A record we hope will last.

Cherish it, my friend; preserve it, my friend,
For stones sometimes crumble to dust
And generations of folks yet to come
Will be grateful for your trust.

RE: Don't know if you are interested or not, but ~ ~
Thank you for thinking of me. I didn't know these 2 babies were findable. They are my mom's 2 half sisters and the only baby we ever heard of was Mary Ann because she lived the longest (2 weeks) and we know there are at least 2 more. Mary Ann has a headstone also in Lutons. My mom ran away to get married when her mom was having one in 1946. We were told the babies all had a rare blood disorder but I think Anna and Ed's blood didn't mix. They had 2 boys before all the girls and they did fine. One is still living. I would love to have them if you know what to do. I'm not so smart about that. God bless you in all you do and if you find more put them on.

RE: My apologies
Hi Syd - Wow - thank you so much for all the work you did today on the family of John Huston Dennis! Amazingly fast and accurate!

Regarding his parents as being Tilmon Dennis and Martha Amos, it is my best hypothesis, since no record 100% identifying his parents yet (everything on ancestry regarding this comes from me). I originally had his parents tentatively as Levi Dennis and Rebecca Lyons of Overton County, until Daisy and Fred submitted information for their delayed birth certificates, listing his birthplace as Georgia. All documents John himself submitted listed his birthplace as TN. Well, Tilmon was in McMinn TN prior to 1840, and in Bradley TN in 1840. He then moved across the boarder into Dade Co, GA, and on 1850 we see a Huston Dennis, the right age of John. John spent his childhood in GA but was born in TN, therefore Fred/Daisy assumed birthplace of GA whereas all other docs list TN. Later, we find who I presume is younger brother Robert living near John in Nashville, also working on Rairoad, as well as older sister and her husband who also worked on RR. Robert and older sis Sarah both later moved to AL, and Tilmon was listed as his and her father on death certificates. So, Tilmon being John's father is not 100% proven, but is most likely with information we have today. (And I have DNA connections at Tilmon)

RE: My apologies
Thank you very much for your support! Appreciate the level of detail you added and so quickly as well!

Mattie and Edward were my gg grandparents. Their daughter, Grace Roger Bailey married William Johnson Byram and lived to be 102. She is the Mrs. W.J. Byram that was informant on Mattie's death certificate.

By the way, I'm hoping someone can help get John Huston Dennis memorial added. I heard he has a large gravestone in Mt Olivet, but he's not on findagrave. (And I live in Japan). He and Ed G Bailey bought the plot. I should be receiving docs soon regarding the burial, but unfortunately no pic of the marker. He was born 1839 or 40. He was a L&N railroad engineer and died June 14, 1899 in Guthrie Kentucky in a railroad accident. I have the article about the accident. He was buried June 15.

Thank you again!!

Wm. Minshall
Hello Syd

That William is my wife's grandfather on her Dad's side. I have a ton of the Minshall's
in my files. His family some any way are buried here in Michigan in Van-Buren Co., Most were farmers I believe. Boyd Perkins
