I am a collector and amateur historian of early Space Related articles and Military history focused on the AAF in WWII but covering all branches world wide. I have been active in this field since 1990. |
The military history of my family got me started on working my family tree. When I don't have a photo of a member I start looking for there final resting place.
I have always enjoyed helping others in my military research and have also tried to do that in my family history search.
I am not in this for the numbers so I am glad to transfer to family. The whole reason for doing this is for the FAMILY of those at rest, which seems to be forgotten by some members. Maybe they get paid for there numbers? Hah!
I found this poem on fellow member Linda Dukes (46842176) page and really liked it. Linda lists it as Author Unknown. I tweaked it a little so this is my modified version. Thanks for this Linda, I think its great!
Poem for a Genealogist
Your tombstone stands among the rest; neglected and alone….
The name and date are chiseled out; on polished marbled stone….
It reaches out to all who care; it is too late to mourn...
You did not know that I exist; you died before I was born...
Yet each of us shares cells of you; in flesh, in blood, in bone...
Our heart contracts and beats a pulse; entirely not our own…..
Dear ancestor the place you filled; one hundred years ago….
Spreads out among the ones you left; who would have loved you so...
I wonder if you knew someday; that I would find this spot...
And come to visit you this way; though I did know you not.

Thanks for the info. Also... thanks for the research you are doing for the book. Happy hunting. Debbie J.

You are very welcome, Mark. Think of it as a "place-saver" until I can get something a little more photogenic in the Spring. I only live a mile away.

Thank you for your kind tribute to my father. He was a POW at Stalag Luft 1 during WW2 which caused him to have heart problems which ultimately led to an early death. I know he was well decorated but don't have his medals or any information regarding his war records. I live in England now and have no access to records but would welcome any information anybody might be able to find about my father's military service. My email is firstname.lastname@example.org and my name is Jenny Allaston. Thank you.

Thank you so much for the compliment on my Kemp family research work. I'm not related to them but hopefully what I've come up with for them will be of help to those who are related to the family.

Just wanted to say what a nice memorial you put together for Jane Haseltine Johnson Mayhew. I was at Ater Cemetery the other day and saw Jane Mayhew's marker resting against the Juniper tree. I saw her daughters grave marker not far from Jane Mayhews on the other side of the tree. Lilian Natalie Mayhew. It is very crumbled and broken. It was such a lovely stone. I have recorded her and will be linking her to her parents. Just wanted to tell you what a lovely memorial for Jane Mayhew and writing out the transcript.

Received your edit request to link the above to parents.
Before I link someone, I like to have some sort of proof of the relationship between the two -- as people tend to depend on what they find without doing their research to find proof... resulting in lots of mistakes. I spend so much time going back and making changes due to wrong information being sent via EDIT REQUESTS.
I'll be glad to link them if you'll please just send me something that shows these are indeed the right parents. If not, I'll make a note of the links you've sent and link as soon as I am able to establish the relationship.
Thanks for the leads either way.
