I'm a retired teacher from Wisconsin who became interested in genealogy in the fall of 2012. I'm looking forward to learning more about ways to find out information about my ancestors and my husband's ancestors.|
I am more than happy to make additions and/or corrections to memorials. Please use the edit key rather than leaving a public message. If you are a relative and would like to have a memorial transferred to you, please submit that request through the edit key as well. Please state how you are related. Transfer requests outside of Find A Grave guidelines will be considered on an individual basis.
When I take photos at cemeteries, I like to take a wide shot if possible to include other family members. I usually create a caption for the photo saying who is in the photo. To see the caption, just double click on the photo.
I am granting permission to use any photos that I have taken for any non-commercial use. It would be appreciated if you would acknowledge that the photo came from me. Please feel free to use them on family trees and other websites.
Please check out the virtual cemeteries that I have been working on. If you have any information that you would like to share with me, please use the edit key or send me a public message through Find A Grave.
I enjoy photographing entire cemeteries, creating new memorials, and adding photos to existing memorials. I try to do a quick search to see if I can document family relationships. Before I go on to the next cemetery, I try to make sure that duplicate memorials have been removed and all memorials are actually in the correct cemetery (when possible).
Listed below are the cemeteries I have completed so far by county. The first year listed is the year I photographed the entire cemetery. The second year, if listed, is the year I last walked through the entire cemetery again looking for updates.

There are some contributors who create memorials for individuals and list them as "burial unknown". They wait for photo volunteers like me to find these individuals and create memorials for them in the correct cemetery. Then after the individual is found, the contributor sends a request to remove the "duplicate" record. It's pretty unscrupulous, but it's done. Please, don't do this to Find A Grave contributors who work hard walking local cemeteries and taking countless photos.
If I happen to find one of the people you have been looking for, please send me a thank you through the edit key, remove your memorial, and request a transfer. I will be more than happy to honor your request. I might even be willing to move my photos over to your memorial and delete mine under certain circumstances.
If there are duplicate records in a cemetery, a request will be sent to Find A Grave to merge the memorials. All the information, photos, etc. will be preserved. Find A Grave will decide which memorial to keep, which usually is the memorial that was created first in the correct cemetery. This usually takes about 1-2 weeks.

Hi, Thanks so much for your photos. Fred was a brother of my Great grandfather. My maiden name is Cartwright so everyone at this cemetery is a family member somewhere. Thanks again for your time. Jo

Dear Jane Marie!
Thanks for the great clear photos of Amalia & Carl's grave markers, I appreciate all you're doing in these cemeteries, what a project!
|Rebecca Wright||RE: Just a few left|
Good morning Janet Marie!
Looks like we're working on this at the same time! I think we're there.....Ella Sophia's parents Amalia & Carl John are buried at Eastside Cemetery, that was totally my mistake and I have corrected that, and deleted their memorials for St. John's. I just received confirmation last week that Harriet Elva Quantius Baumbach was buried at All Soul's Cemetery in Long Beach, only her husband is buried at St. John's. We thought she may have been brought back and buried there because there was a memorial service for her in Montello after her death and it was unclear in the bible. It took forever to get the info from the mortuary in Long Beach, so I made the changes this morning for her memorial....sorry that wasn't done already.
That leaves only Elaine McLaughlin and by the notes in my grandmother McLaughlin's bible, it shows all three of John & Ella McLaughlin's daughters were buried there: Elaine, Eleanor & Elvira, but that's all the info I have for her, even after searching on Ancestry etc. She lived with her sister Eleanor on the 1940 census but just disappeared after that. I'm puzzled by both Elaine and Grace not having markers because the family had everyone else with nice grave stones. Of course my search will continue, but that appears to be the case, that Elaine is in an unmarked grave.
Thank you so much for all your time and efforts on this, I am thrilled with your help and Marty's that I now have been able to connect nearly all of my grandmother's family, most of them are right there at St. John's. It's definitely a trip I need to make someday to get back there and go the St. John's myself. It's volunteers like you that make Find-A-Grave such a great website!

Hi Janet Marie,
I was just about to write to you, I have taken the photo request off for John Collins who was married to Marcella McLaughlin. I just today had an email from a cousin who gave me more info and he remarried after Marcella and they believe he passed away in a different county, so for the time being I've taken him off of St. John's and will research further. As to Maurice McLaughlin, my cousin also just informed me that he was buried shortly after the Civil War in Indiana under "Morris McLaughlin" (news to me!!) anyway I have made the necessary changes for him as well and taken the photo request off the list. Thank you for all your time and efforts, and yes of course that would be fine to add a photo of the McLaughlin plot to Grace's memorial, I appreciate it.
|Rebecca Wright||Grace McLaughlin|
Hi Janet Marie,
Thank you for searching for Grace's grave. By the family bible notes I have, it shows her buried at St. John's near her parents: John Thomas McLaughlin (1858-1936) and Mary E. McLaughlin (1859-1936), Grace was still living with her parents in Montello at age 29 on the 1920 census, which I think corroborates the note in the bible that she never married and died in her early 30s. Her brother John Edward McLaughlin is near there as well. I guess we have to assume that she is in an unmarked grave, but it does show in the bible that she was buried there. Sorry, that's all I have to go on, so I will just mark her "in an unmarked grave". Thanks so much for your time and efforts.

Yes, I agree. That's certainly a better way of thinking about it. I wish I had more cemeteries near me (Cherry Valley, IL) that weren't added to the 'system' yet....it's like finding gold! haha
|Michael Stanley Klimczak||RE: Re: Cwikla grave|
That's sad to hear, Janet. Thank you for that information. I recently stumbled upon a cemetery near my home that has over 400 people buried there, but only 4 of them were loaded on Find A Grave. I've since added everyone with pictures!
|Michael Stanley Klimczak||Re: Cwikla grave|
I wanted to stop by and thank you for trying to locate the grave of Walter Cwikla. It's quite possible that I have the incorrect cemetery. I will double-check with family. I do, however, appreciate your time.
