Dark hills at evening in the west,
Where sunset hovers like a sound
Of golden horns that sang to rest
Old bones of warriors under ground,
Far now from all the bannered ways
Where flash the legions of the sun,
You fade--as if the last of days
Were fading, and all wars were done.
(The Dark Hills by Edward Arlington Robinson, first published in 1920)
O Memory! thou midway world
‘Twixt earth and paradise,
Where things decayed and loved ones lost
In dreamy shadows rise,
And, freed from all that's earthly vile,
Seem hallowed, pure, and bright,
Like scenes in some enchanted isle,
All bathed in liquid light.
(Verses 2 and 3 from My Childhood's Home I See Again, a poem written by Abraham Lincoln and published in the Quincy [Illinois] Whig by editor Andrew Johnston, 1847)
And am I born to die
To lay this body down
And must my trembling spirit fly
Into a world unknown
(first verse of 47b Idumea from The Sacred Harp hymnal, original text by Charles Wesley)
A tended cemetery is itself a living creature of earth and candles and flowers. But when there are no living to remember the stories and faces and names of a cemetery's dead, a cemetery dies.
(Time's Magpie by Myla Goldberg)

|Ever After||Sr Mary Ephrem|
Good afternoon. I have photographed the entire Our Lady of the Pines cemetery and there is no headstone present for Sister Ephrem. Are you sure this is her final resting spot? Thanks for any follow up and I will research in cemetery records for any further information.

Thank you for looking into that.. My Ancestry membership expired in May and I'm waiting until the fall to re-up & start investigating again.. otherwise I wouldn't get anything done outside with my garden, nor with photographing the cemeteries around here .. instead, I'd be sitting inside, at my desk, being all tazmanian devil like on the Ancestry site.. LOL..
I truly appreciate your help with this.. as well as your dedication and kindness..
