Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am an 8th generation Durr from South Carolina. My family roots grow very deep into the soil of the counties of Orangeburg, Dorchester, Colleton, Berkeley and Barnwell.

I've researched and traveled across the Lowcountry part of the state to where my ancestors settled, to dig into musty courthouse bins, rooted through libraries, and traipse cemeteries.

Even after many years of research, I am awed when I look at the old family tombstones, bible, land plats, Last Will and Testaments and keepsake pictures with so many lineages and thinking of the forklore of many generations past touches my heart.

I currently reside in Blythewood, SC. If I have made any errors, please feel free to contact me.

Some of the families I research are; Durr, Ruple, Bell, Salisbury, Murray, Weathers, Whetsell, Miller, Ayers, Way, Beach, Bozard, Keitt, Strock, Dukes and Johnson.

Thank you so much for posting the Chappell graves. Each and every one of them is kin to me, but I dare not ask for a transfer. Thank You again for everything you have done. It is greatly appreciated.

Ruple - Ayers in South Carolina
I am the principal researcher for a life-long friend who is related to the Ayer/Ayers family of South Carolina. Supposedly an Andrew Downing Ayers or Aires married Barbara Ruple. One of their children was John Louis Ayer who traveled back and forth between the Orangeburg area of South Carolina an Floyd County, Georgia before going to Louisiana in the 1860s - 1870s. Do you know anything about this family. Thank you, Emily West

Caroline Carrie Haygood Matthews
Thank you for the transfer of Caroline's grave and her son, Job W. Matthews. We found a copy of Job's death certificate, and we see the birth date on the marker is incorrect. His birth date is Sept. 14, 1875. (The marker was installed in recent years, and the information we had was incorrect. Do you have any information about the markers for children: Henry Matthews, aged 8 years; Mary Matthews, aged 5 months, and Elijah, aged 8 months? These are located next to Caroline's grave.

Just saying Hello
Hi Herman,

Your first cousin, once removed, Kathy Strange Wagner, and I have been exchanging information on her Griffith line and my Ashe line the last several days. I talked with Kathy this afternoon to let her know I was going to Orangeburg soon and would get the GPS coordinates (for FindAGrave) for her Griffith family members that are buried in Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg.

I see from your profile that you live in Blythewood, SC. I lived in Blythewood with my sister for awhile, on Columbia Club Drive. I was there from 1982 until about 1985. I now live near Charlotte, NC and my sister has moved into Columbia.

I have one Durr in my family tree, Ella Belle Durr, who is the wife of one of my 4th cousins, Chester W. Kizer. He is a cousin through my Smith line. My mother is a Smith and his mother is a Smith, if my research is correct.

Maybe you and I have a connection somewhere.

Maybe we will run into each other in a cemetery one of these days.

Jim
