Vonnie, I am trying to locate a record which indicates that Samuel Chance's father was Vincent Chance #137920729). Would you have any such documents?

While the actual burial site for Captain Connelly remains unknown, there is a cenotaph honoring him in the Cantrell Gilliand Memorial Garden. May this memorial serve as an expression of the gratitude we have owe Captain Connelly for risking his life and braving the unknown to help build a new country: our America.

Cantrell Gilliand Memorial Garden
Spartanburg County
South Carolina, USA

Please Contact me so we can work out a way to combine the information on both sites
Thanks Gary Jensen

Hi again. I don't understand how there could be 2 stones in the same cemetery for one person. I am 700 miles from Oak Ridge, La., or I would run right over there. Are you any closer????? Maybe we will get this figured out one day. Little Marie

Hi Vonnie, and thanks for your reply! I am the one who inserted the parentheses around the word "he" so that it would stand out in my email to you. :)

I certainly have enjoyed reading a few of your memorials and I truly admire your relationship with Alma. It was joy to read of the loving way you and Wayne treated her. If only all moms/mom-in-laws could have the same experience...

I looked at census records this morning and have posted on her memorial page what I found. She was definitely born in 1843 and not the earlier date.
I did not see 2 stones for her when I visited this cemetery so I don't know why there are 2. I am particularly interested in Mary and Porter Larkins daughter "Teta" because she and her husband (boyfriend at the time) Cud Baird were friends of my great grandmother Bessie Brashear and her family. Cud and Teta are mentioned in quite a few letters that my dad has that were written by my great grandmother.

I just looked at your virtual cemetery for the Battle of Kings Mountain and am so pleased that my ancestor Maj. Francis McCorkle is there. What a job finding all those men must have been !!

Well, this is really weird. I took the photo I posted, and the stone says that she was wife of Porter Larkin. I looked at the OTHER memorial for a woman of the same name who was also the wife of Porter Larkin, and it has different the same cemetery. I will definitely look at this. I noted while I was at this cemetery that there were a couple of newer stones erected for older burials and they (the stones)had a few errors on them. Thank you for drawing my attention to this. Cantrell Gilliland cemetery
Thank you for the wonderful additions of my husbands Gilliland family. I have made photo requests for each of them and put in my notes that the cemetery is located on private property and admission is required. I hope they still have markers but you have certainly honored them with the detailed accts on here. Thank you again. If by some chance you also created or know who created the cemetery on here, note the Gilliland is missing an L in the title page. gilliLand. Lots of I and L together so easy to miss. Lol. Thank you again and I am hoping someone can fill all the requests as there is almost 30 now. Please let me know if I can assist you in NE Alabama. Maria
