My interest of documenting cemeteries began with a request to help on an Eagle Scout project in 2001. |
Since I love creating and working with databases, digital photography and genealogy, what better combination!
I've documented many Howard Co. Indiana and Montclam Co. Michigan cemeteries with thousands of tombstone photos. My largest contributions are Arlington National Cemetery and Crown Hill Cemetery, Indianapolis.
I love Find A Grave and I especially enjoy adding photos to memorials so that family members can visit their family member's grave at anytime. However, I ask that you respect my efforts. Please, do NOT copy my photos to ancestry.com without giving me credit. Simply indicate "© 2001-2013 John C Anderson on Find A Grave". I'd appreciate a note letting me know you have copied them. However, do NOT post them to other Find A Grave memorials. Just let me know and I will upload them. Use for commercial purposes is not allowed under any circumstances. However, it is okay with me for you to post my photos of your friends and families headstones on Facebook as long as you link it back to the Find A Grave memorial. You may use my photos on your own personal website if non-commercial, but photo credit is again appreciated.
This love of documenting cemeteries has led to the formation of Instone Data Solutions, a company used by government agencies and others to digitize their old cemetery paper records.
I'm more than happy to make corrections and add relationship links to other memorials.
ALL REQUESTS FOR corrections, additional information, or transfers: PLEASE do so with the Suggest A Correction (SAC) link on the memorial for that person. [Most memorials will have an 'Edit' tab on the upper right side of the memorial. Click on the 'Edit' tab, then click on the 'Suggest a correction' link on the Edit page.]
PLEASE NOTE: I'm very grateful for corrections and additional information, but I'm receiving 75-100 a day and cannot reply to everyone. Please check back to ensure accuracy of memorial page updates.
Please be assured I do most updates, corrections and links (via SAC, email or message) within a day. Guidelines do suggest a member send no more than 20 per week to a single contributor but have no problem with receiving as many as needed to get the objective accomplished - which is getting memorials, and the cemeteries, as accurate and complete as humanly possible.

Hi, and thanks so much for your prompt edits to Shirley's memorial. She is buried a long way from home, and it's nice to have her linked back to her family and hometown "roots". Thanks again,

You didn't have to transfer, but from the bottom of my heart, I sincerely THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!! Another little story from my Dad & another Army buddy of Lowell's that I found a couple of years ago & her verified what Dad said. Daddy had to lie to Grandma Eddington about how Lowell died. Papers shows Lowell was KIA, which is sort of true. But, Lowell stood up in the line of fire! I guess that goes with Lowell giving Daddy his wallet and watch. Thanks again. Pam

Thanks for the photo of my great aunt's headstone. I did give you credit but need to be sure that is correct. Under the photo it says, "Added by Paul Hays". I have posted to my Ancestry account and will change if necessary.

My Great Uncle is David Shirley Cook, SR. memorial #4573378. I was wondering if you could transfer him over to me, or perhaps if he is of relation to you as well, maybe you could link him to his mother for me. Her name is Thelma Virginia Oliver Cook, memorial #125292932.
Thanks so much!

|P R P||Hello|
I sent about 8 messages to you yesterday and wanted to let you know that the first one I sent contained the below message (connected to George W. SNeed). The rest were short requests. I hope you didn't get offended by reading the last 7 messages first. I realize you're busy so whenever you get a chance, I'd greatly appreciate a transfer on those other graves.
I'm adding information to 19 African-American officers who served on the Indianapolis Police Department from 1911-1950's (photos, career information and birth/death information. Almost all were buried in Crown Hill and so far it seems you created most if not all of their Findagrave.com entries. I was wondering if you would consider transferring them. I would dress them up with all the information I can and would greatly appreciate it. Hopefully it'll assist with a Black History project I'm working on within IMPD (whereo I'm employed). There's more to come so I hope you don't mind the multiple emails.
