I enjoy searching for family information. Most of my immediate ancestors are from McCracken and Marshall County Kentucky. With the surnames of Vannerson, Beyer, McCain and Bailey. |
I do not come from royalty (darn) but I do have a very famous ancestor, Julian Vannerson. He was a famous civil war photographer and many of the photos of General Lee in his uniform were taken by Julian.
On a side note... There is a photograph that has never been seen by the general public. Julian sent 3 photos home for safe keeping and one of them hung over the fireplace in the family home unfortunately it was stolen while the family was attending a funeral. If you have seen an original work of Julian Vannerson taken during the Civil War era and it's not in the history books there is a good chance this is the missing photo and the family would like to have it back where it belongs. Thank you.
I am very thankful to those who have worked so hard to create memorials for my family members, whether direct-line or not. Because my ancestors are important to me I will ask for transfers and consider it an honor to be able to maintain their memorials.
Why do I have so many memorials?
First and foremost I AM NOT PLAYING A NUMBERS GAME!!
I give of my time and resources because I love being able to help others find a missing piece of their family. I also love the format that Find A Grave provides. A FREE resource for family members to aid in their research and the ability to leave a message in memory of them.
The majority of the memorials I've added are not my family. When I went to a cemetery to fulfill a photo request I would often find many stones in the area with the same family name on them. I would photograph and post those as well if a memorial was not already made. It is my hope that it would help family members locate lost family members or aid in their research. That proved to be very valuable to one particular person as she had been hunting for an ancestor for years and had almost given up hope of ever finding them.
I have also walked entire cemeteries looking for 1-3 surnames in order to assist fellow contributors.
I also became frustrated with a very large cemetery who would charge $5.00 per name to look up a burial plot. Thinking this was wrong and it should free to the public, I along with my husband set forth on a mission to document every grave in that cemetery and then turn my spreadsheets over to the historical society. He and I have spent countless hours on this major project.
That my fellow friends is why I have so many memorials. It is not a numbers game and I will gladly transfer any of my memorials so they may be maintained by family members. I am honored to have had the opportunity to photograph and/or document a piece of family history for you and for future generations.
Hello again. It's been a very hectic spring and summer but I'm happy to say I'm back to work on Find A Grave memorials.
Thank you for being so patient over this last few months. In all my years I have never had a year so time consuming and filled with personal family deaths as this one has been.
I have updated several memorials and am working on ones from the month of May. Most of them are from Connie and Kathy. I'll get those done this week.
With several hundred photos on my hard drive that need to be posted as well as personal genealogy information to dig into, there just is not enough time in the day to do everything I want to do so ... I have turned in my notice at work effective the end of the year.
The winter months are perfect for updating such information. Who knows perhaps I will have time to fulfill photo requests again starting in the spring. Yippie ;-)
This is one happy gal.

Absolutely! You may copy anything.
I don't seek after every family member that has a memorial on F.A.G. I'm very mindful of other living family members who may have a closer genealogical relationship then I do - especially the further back the generation is. But, for example, to refuse transfer of my grandmother's dead infant's memorial because it's not within F.A.G. deadlines is a little ridicules, and frankly, proof enough to me that it truly is "all about the numbers" for some.
THANK YOU for always being one who willingly shares your hard work on Find-a-Grave! I know those of us on the receiving end appreciate everything you do and we applaud your efforts, honesty and integrity!

Many thanks! I'll take good care of them. Hope your life settles a bit going forward. Looking forward to working with you in the future.

Thank you so much for the transfer of Bessie Allgood.
I hope things have calmed down for you and congratulations on turning in your notice at work! As always, thanks for all your contributions to Find-a-Grave.
|Connie Young Kitchen||So sorry for your losses......|
Not a problem to wait on the updates. I presume you will work through them as time permits. May you and your family find comfort in each other.
|Connie Young Kitchen||checking on updating status|
Hello, I've sent several requests for updates a couple of months back and am just inquiring as to whether you have resumed working through a list or not or whether everything should be resubmitted.

Thank you so much!

Ira is my grandfather and I would like to post his tombstone picture and link him to family. Would you mind transferring him to me?

There are some strange messages on Find A Grave in Little Union. Did you take a picture of this grave? It said info was added and the message is in the photo spot.
I'm confused. I've found this a few places and picture will not appear.
You have taken some pictures a couple of years back regarding this family. I would like to have your permission to add these photos to my Ancestry tree.
Thank you very much for your time.

No, not related. Thanks for asking. Ann
