Apple's Chapel has been my home church all my life except for about 10 years while living in other locations. I am a retired nurse and serve as historian of Apple's Chapel. Welcome one and all to join us for worship.

I started adding memorials from a listing of the cemetery compiled by Norma Gordon. This list is the results of a survey of the cemetery and includes all readable headstones prior to 1982. Any errors will be corrected upon request.
I have reviewed records of funerals in church office from 1987 to current. Also I have been through the cemetery making pictures of head/foot stones. Many markers are unreadable or missing.

References: The Browns of Apple's Chapel by Norma Brown Gordon, 1993; Apple Genealogy--A Genealogical Register of Apple Families Originating in North Carolina by Stephen W. Apple and Karen Booth Apple, 1992; and families of the church. Also funeral records in the church office. The Zimmerman Family History including--Pritchett/Busick/Zimmerman/Huffines/Chrismon. I have started using www.familysearch.org .

Would you mind adding Elizabeth Carter's obit to her memorial page, #166089557. She was a very dear friend. If you don't want to add it would you mind transfer the memorial over to me as I have many ancestors buried in this cemetery. Thanks so much Linda Ellington

RE: Joseph K. Wilkins, Jr
Thru census records, marriage and death records I gathered the following:
Joseph Kirby Wilkins Sr. (1877-1919, s/o W. T. & C.J. Wilkins from marriage record in 1903 Danville VA; VA Death Records & WWI Draft list name as Joseph Kirby Wilkins) and wife Edna Alice Jennings (1885-1969, d/o J.H. & S.E. Jennings; she m. 2nd Wilson H. Jarrett) are found on the 1910 census of Newport News VA with son Joseph Kirby "Joe" Jr. (b. 1908).
Joe Jr. (Find A Grave 84767420) is found on 1910 Newport News Census & 1920 Pittsylvania Co., VA censuses again with parents. In 1940 WWII Draft he's in Reidsville NC; the 1940 Census of Reidsville Rockingham Co., NC gives him living in 1935 in Washington DC - he married 23 Apr 1927 in Rockingham to Beulah Virginia Bondurant. Joe and Beulah were parents of 4 children: Joseph Kirby III (Find A Grave 140647666) (1928-2014, m. 1945 to Jackie Mae Cole 1929-2009, divorced 1985, had 2 children; he m. 2nd Brenda ? (wife when he died)), William "Bill" (c.1930-bef. 2014, never married), Dorothy "Dot" (b. 1931, m. 1953 Billy Gene Tuttle), & Virginia Elizabeth (1937-2011, m. Nathaniel Peter Angle Jr.).
Joseph Kirby III (1928-2014, Called Joseph Junior on 1940 census) & Jackie Mae Cole (1929-2009) were parents of Joseph Kirby IV (1947, m. Jenny ?) and Janet Carol (1950, m. Charles "Ceedy" Cook).
Last generations are taken from obits and birth, marriage records of NC.
I recognize that current obits would refer to living or recently deceased with a lower generation number but the records clearly show there have been 4 consecutive Joseph Kirby Wilkins.
Joseph #1 was deceased before Joseph #2 married which would put him in the "Sr." position when his son Joseph #3 was born and when Joseph #4 was born c. 1947, his grandfather #2 was still very much alive.
Hope this will clarify to your satisfaction.

RE: Kathryn P. Miller
Glad to do it! It was my first visit to the St John's Columbarium. It is one of the most beautiful ones in all of Charlotte. I also logged a record for Dr. MIller and attached the same photo.
