Bio and Links
Bio Photo I finally had to change my profile picture. The old picture of my youngest son was quite out of date considering he's going into 2nd grade next year :( He still enjoys going out to take pictures with me so there's still hope for him!
There are so many old cemeteries in this part of NC so we are trying to post as many interments as possible to help all you researchers out. Also, most of the stones they used for markers in the 1800's are not standing up to the elements very well so it's a race against time to get as many pictures as possible. If you are looking for more NC relatives, I am working with the team of volunteers at They have surveyed and taken pictures of a ton of cemeteries in central NC.

One of the most popular questions I get emailed is asking permission to use "my" photos. The short answer is yes, you can use any pictures I have taken. I don't require references or accreditation because that's not why I joined the website and volunteer to take photos. I don't consider them my property unless you use them to somehow make millions of dollars (then I'd appreciate a small kickback) :)

September 2015

Actively working on Oakwood cemetery in Mebane, NC. I've done two of the largest sections so it looks like it's all downhill now! I'm on a mission to finish the photographing the cemetery in the next two weeks, then another couple to finish the transcription.

Look at you guys! Since Findagrave has gone to the new edit system you all have sent me 5,704 edits & corrections. Keep up the great work!

Is Mr. Koury still living? I haven't found any information about his death through Social security or other means. Thank you.

Oakwood Cemetery
I am not as active on Find A Grave as I once was, but when I left the previous message, I noticed in your bio about photographing Oakwood Cemetery in Mebane. I wanted to pass this information along in case you are interested in helping out the city. Mebane does not have a record of who is buried in Oakwood. They only have a record of who purchased the grave plot. If the plot was sold, or if someone bought the plot for a deceased relative, the record doesn't show the deceased as being buried there...only the name of the living person who bought it. Consequently, it's sometimes very difficult for a person to find a grave unless the deceased was the one who actually purchased the plot. Chris Rollins had spoken to me about someone volunteering to record who was actually buried there, but I do not have time. If you are photographing, I'm sure the city would love for you to record the names of the actual people who are buried there. I believe Stephanie Shaw is who you'd need to get in touch with. Just passing this along.

Gilliams Cemetery
Hi Jason,
Sometime when you are in the area I would like a picture of the Gilliam's Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery at Elon College, Alamance County, NC. There is a picture in the grave memorials but it doesn't appear to be of the cemetery. Thanks much, Nancy Lee

RE: Cemetery
Seems I am distant kin to most the folks in the Satterfield Cemetery. I research Rev Thomas Burgess (1715) and Mary Warren (1715) Of Spotsylvania, VA. I have a tree on Ancestry...nancyleeburgess2011. In my research lots of times I can't find a death certificate but many times I can find a tombstone from Find a Grave. It is the most valuable resource. I have a ton of your memorials and pictures on my site. I have added over 50 memorials to my site from the Oakwood Cemetery which I think you said you are currently working. If you do post some Satterfield Cemetery photos I will be a happy lady. Thanks in advance for any photos you post and please no hurry.
