I grew up in the Northwestern area of Orange County, NC. next to the Alamance, Caswell county lines. I have a number of kin buried @ Mt Zion Church. Byrd's, Florence's|
I have a number of Shepherd Kin buried in Guilford & Alamance Counties.I am currently working on linking and providing information on as many as i can. We loss a number of Shepherd's in the Civil war. I have set up a Virtual Cemetery for the Civil War Guilford- Alamance Shepherd's . One for those that died during the war and one for the survivors of the war. See my Virtual Cemeteries to view it. I will add names as i find them.
ATTENTION: If your looking for the Surname SHEPHERD, SHEPARD, SHEPPARD & SHEPHARD in Alamance or Guilford Counties, they can all be related. A German immigrant from Pennsylvania William Schaefer or Schaeffeer settled in Guilford County in or before 1775 near what is now the Guilford-Alamance county line area. Early court clerks had a hard time spelling Schaefer so it was listed as Shaver in Census and early documents. His childern used the Shaver name, but most of their childern , the third generation started using the English version, SHEPHERD. Due to lack of schooling and early grave stone makers misspelling the name, and different census takers spelling it different it started to be spelled different ways. You can find the same family's with different spelling of Shepherd.
A number of the early Guilford Shepherd's moved to Illinois and Indiana in the 1830-1870 range to take advantage of the opening of land grants by the government. Because of a lack of names of the whole family living at a house in the 1830- 1840 census records its very hard to figure out which family members that moved and who their family members are.
I enjoy listing people i have known over the years . I Hope in someway this helps people find their relatives and friends. I will be glad to add pictures for you, just email the picture and info needed.

I've made the link to her husband, but in doing so, I've discovered that someone else has already made an entry for her in the Apple Cemetery. They had used the last name of Apple on the entry instead of Shepherd.
So it looks like mine should be deleted since she now has two entries, and mine was in the wrong cemetery in the first place.
I'll wait until you have looked at them and see if there's anything else you would want to do before I delete mine.
Thanks for updating!
Obituary and dod added. Thank you.

The first wife of James H. Leonard was Soloma Hall and his second wife was Martha ____ . Do you perhaps know her maiden name. Her name was on the marriage papers you listed on Greenhill site for Victoria Leonard

I'm researching my maternal grandmother's family - Shepherd's from Alamance County. Just discovered your page here at findagrave and look forward to searching through the information you have. I am on ancestry.com and will be glad to share my information with you - but I bet you already know it! I think you have much more that will help me!
This grave is of my grandmother, Belva Shepherd Brook's great grandfather
