Bio and Links
Bio Photo I live in Marshall Co. AL, and have for some 55 years. Like most people on find a grave I love genealogy. I have been using this site for some time in finding my family. Someone asked me if I had ever thought about helping find a grave with taking pictures. I challenge you to join in this group of people. Find an old cemetery, and start taking pictures. These old stones are not going to hold up to nature.
My family list includes: Birdsong, Brumbeloe, Cobb, Cornelius, Culpepper, Davis, Dobbins, Edmonson, Garrett, Gilbreath, Gorham, Jordan, Larmore, Martin, Pruitt, Roden, and Sims. A lot of what I've researched has been in the Marshall or surrounding counties.

You need to claim a photo request before you take a picture. This way no one else goes out of their way to take the picture and the photo request will be fulfilled. Please do not post a picture on a memorial that has been claimed by someone else. The photo request will not go away when you do this, and you do not get credit for the pictures.

On some of the older stones I have taken chalk to highlight the names and dates, but I wash this off with water before leaving.

Fill free to send any edits you may need by using the edit button. I will be glad to transfer any memorial I have opened unless they are my family. Any picture I have taken you can copy, I just ask that you give find a grave the credit. This is a wonderful site for genealogy study.

RE: Jerry Lang
Dear Nancy, Yes that is the resting place of Jerry. His headstone is not down at the present time. Thank you for posting the pictures you have to Jerry for I did not know that the plaque he bought for himself was broken. I will get with his sister to find out when his stone will be in place and have the plaque fixed. Jerry's memorial on F-A-G was created by one of his good friends. I'm new to F-A-G so if you see something I need to fix please say so. A thank you seems so small of words for all the work of listing pictures and family you have listed so far at Skirum, Fairview and others. Your work is greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Jill

RE: Clarance Wright
I am not sure where Clara Mae Brown Wright is buried. There is a Clara B. Wright #7864538 buried in Talladega whose birthday is 18 Dec 1911 and died 12 July 1988 but I do not know if this is Clarence's wife. I don't think the one buried in Talladega is your Clara because your Mamie and James were married 8 Dec 1911 which would be 10 days before this Clara was born. I have been researching to see if I could make a connection but nothing thus far.

Sallie Sampson Cornelius

I have changed Sallie name to Sallie Venson Cornelius. I can't find anything to substantiate the name Sampson.

Thanks for pointing out my error. Your help is appreciated.

You have raised a good question. I am not sure where I got Sampson ILO Venson. Do you have access to If so, check the 1880 Marshall co census. I am show an Olivia Sampson, mother-in-law in the record. However, Family Search just lists Olivia Sampson with nothing else.

Based on the evidence, it does appear Venson is correct. Before changing I like to clarify the 1880 census record.

RE: Gautney
LOL - When we first began researching my father-in-law's family in the late 1980's, one of his double first cousins that we talked with many times said she thought she was related to everyone who lived on Sand Mountain, if not by blood, by marriage. :-) This has certainly proved true through researching the Gautneys, Mayes and several other lines in that area.

I am confused about your comment about George Gautney's son Preston Horton's marriage. There is a record of him marrying Sarah Frances Bearden 13 Oct 1889 in Marshall County, Alabama. The Gautney name is indexed as "Gantney" at Family Search and on Ancestry. I don't know of a Cobb connection.

A very dear friend, cousin and researcher, Janelle Dowdy Cobb was descended from George. Did you ever come across her in your Cobb research? Unfortunately she passed in 2006.

RE: Gautney
Thanks! You've covered everything in George's memorial. Yes I do know Darius Gautney is also on the same stone as George in Campground Cemetery. Darius has a separate memorial Find A Grave #43634756 in Campground with a notation where he is buried. Thanks again. Irene

RE: Gautney
Nancy, I think I can do the edits and all you'll have to do is approve the changes. Frances doesn't have another memorial that I'm aware of. I sent you a message through George's memorial edit with family information that I have about him. Hope this is ok. Irene

Nancy, the address for Maple Grove Cemetery, Alexandria, AL is wrong. Although in the Alexandria Community, its actual address is Anniston, AL.

There are only three memorials under this wrong address and I will send an edit to the contributors and have them correct the memorials and then ask Find A Grave to delete that cemetery.
