My name is James and I live in Burlington Kansas. Im originally from California. Ive also lived in Oregon and Vermont, but Kansas is my kind of state. I became an Eagle Scout in 1986 and graduated from high school in 1987 from Lake High in Garden Grove, California. After 21 years I have finally decided that going to college might be a good idea, so I am now taking online courses and majoring in History. I am a staunch republican and patriotic American.
What I would like to know, is why does George Washington have fewer then 2,000 virtual flowers on his memorial and Martin Luther King has more then 5,000 on his. Have people forgotten who George Washington is and what he has done. Now I here that the portriats of Mr. and Mrs. Washington will be taken down in public buildings and replaced with portriats of King. This is tragic!!!.
Every time I visit a memorial, historical landmark, museum or battlefield, I get a sense of excitement that is hard to explain. Some people tell me to get a life. I tell people this is my life. Instead of having beer slogans and car posters hanging up in my house, I have family pictures, old and new in frames and sitting all over the house.
While researching my mothers side of the family, I found out that General Custer is related to us as well as Oliver Hardy of Laurel and Hardy and President James Monroe, who was my ggggreat grandmothers nephew.
On my fathers side I am a decendant of William the Conquorer.
Im obsessed with Genealogy and American History. I love old movie classics, but war pictures and movies pertaining to history are my favorites. Ive been into Genealogy every since I was 11 years old. It all started when I used to hear stories told by my Great Grandma Bentley and Grandpa Turner.
Everyone should be remembered and never ever forgotten. It was the ancestors we study today that made us who we are. To forget them is disgraceful.
I really appreciate all the messages left for my family and friends. They are greatly appreciated. If I can be of any help to anyone with their genealogy just let me know. If anybody has any additional information on the memorials I created please let me know and I will add it.
A special thank you to Debra Dawson who,out of her own pocket, sponsored my Grandma and Grandpa Turner's memorial's,also my Uncle Dennis memorial and the tokens she left and the pictures she sent me,they are greatly appreciated. | |

 | Thorpe Family Hello,
Would it possible to transfer the Thorpe memorials to me? I am with the BC Historical Society and I have a lot of info to add for the Thorpes including information on Frank and Clara's murdered daughter Allene. I would hate to keep bugging you to update info.
Thank you,
Joe
