To keep weeds out of the beautiful Find A Grave garden....

First, I don't link to Burial Unknown Site Memorials as BU shouldn't be on FAG according to the guidelines of the website. Do not request relationship edits to a BU as it will be refused. The first criteria for making a memorial on FAG is having the burial site, as this is a grave registration site. When you made a BU, you have a chance of losing the memorial to the member who "Find A Grave" in the cemetery.

Second, I may or may not transfer outside of the guidelines to an established member. It is my choice. Long-time hard working-members, who are busy in surveying cemeteries and taking grave photos impress me more than someone who is collecting others' memorials for their personal goal or waiting for someone to find the burial sites for their numerous memorials made with an "unknown burial site".

Lastly, there are no duplicated memorials on FAG. If I find a duplicated memorial while researching this site, there is 99% chance that it will be deleted or merged eventually.

You may disagree with the guidelines but remember the guy who started Find A Grave wrote them. He is the boss.

Many of the memorials transferred to me were done without my request for them. These memorials have found a home and will be nurtured.

Also, thank you for all the flowers and tokens left on my family's memorial. They are all sincerely appreciated by me and my family.

You're very welcome. My mother and I were taking pictures of all of our relatives headstones today, and I just happened to notice that you had requested one I had taken a picture of. Are you related to her?

I saw the program and I'll ask them about it. The list is more recent that her death so I don't know why she isn't on it. There is a Daniel on the list so maybe she is near him. I will check around Daniel when I'm out there again.

Primum non nocere (first, do no harm)... it may be better not to do something, or even to do nothing, than to risk causing more harm than good.
Words to live by. Political correctness sometimes goes a little too far. I know I caused no harm...can you say the same?

RE: grave photos
Wow. I'm astonished that you would report military seals of our service members as being inappropriate to add to their memorials. I'm sure the families of these service members who enjoyed the plaques as part of their memorials will be equally upset. I've been photographing over 30,000 photos at Doyle and added these seals to each one. Each time I do it takes twice as long, but I do it because it is appreciated by the folks looking for their family members. I also photograph the markers of "orphans"...service men and women who have been forgotten or abandoned on the shelves of funeral homes and I honor them by placing the military seals, each designated to their individual branch of the military on the memorials with their markers. If you look deep into your heart, you will find that this is a labor of love and respect for all who served. I guess you'll be happy to know that all the seals have now been removed thanks to your "efforts".

memorials
Just want you to know how much I appreciate your stand on memorials mentioned in your bio and links.

I have begun the process of sending my memorials to Find a Grave. I am so weary of those that accumulate memorials so they can use them as "family tree" it doesn't work, because every member of the family cannot "own" the memorial. My kick at the can is that Find a Grave memorials are there for the purpose of memorializing, not gathering, related or not. The new edit system is perfect, and I just do not understand why "owning" any memorial makes any sense. I don't think the originator of Find a Grave meant this as the mission; but it took me a while to see the light! I do not mean that one has to transfer to Find a Grave, but it works for me. There are many ways to genealogically record family, and reference the Find a Grave number.

RE: grave photos
Thanks for your note. Yes, the military seals that I add to the memorials are located in the ceremonial section of BG Doyle cemetery. I have never had anyone complain about the addition of these seals; in fact, most welcome the addition to the memorials. Warm regards.
