No problem, John, take your time. Lots going on this time of year!
I think I'd like to speak to you sometime soon since we've never really chatted and we both are so very interested in getting these early Sizemore's sorted as correctly as possible. If you agree, email me your phone number & the best times to call.
You might not be aware that I've moved several times since Joy King "introduced" us 20 or so years ago. Currently I live near Charleston and not too far from Barnwell. There might be something I could take a day trip to look for.

Thanks for the heads up about her burial location. I checked it out and put her in Lozenso. My mistake, I misread Selma as Salem. I did a little research and found some other errors like the spelling of her maiden name and her birth year. The person who transcribed the year showed 29 yrs when it was actually 39 yrs. Makes a big difference. There are no other DeJarnette's at Lozenso, so I don't that she is there either. Maybe someone will find her marker and let me know where she really is. Haven't found her parents and only one of her siblings.

There is indeed what appears to be a block "S" after Brooks on the 1940 census. However, I imagine the census taker would have written a middle initial in cursive as he wrote the other capital S's. So, I do not believe the enumerator intended whatever that is to be construed as a middle initial. In any case, my grandfather did not have a middle name or initial. Rufus Stringfellow, my father's last half-sibling, confirmed that when George Thomas Stringfellow and I visited him in 2005 in Talbotton.
According to his WWI Draft Registration Card, which he filled out and signed, Brooks was born May 1, 1885. My father, Jeff, my uncle, Doug, my brother, Gene, and I, all attended Grandfather's funeral. I was 15 at the time.
I do not think I still have a copy of Brooks' death certificate, but he died July 16, 1961.
