I cannot believe I have to say this, but....
People, I have a life. It is not always pleasant. Life is sometimes just that way. Someone has recently castigated me because I didn't change their family information on their family's memorials within a week. Within that particular week, I did an emergency run to Oklahoma due to a family death (14 hour drive one way). I came roaring back to Colorado to emergencies at work. I don't own a laptop, so I could make no changes while gone. My husband would like my attention periodically, as does the garden, etc. Please, PLEASE respect that we are all volunteers, unpaid folks who do this for the joy and love of family, cemeteries, or a boatload of other reasons. Give me A MONTH to make changes. I know that seems like for forever on your part, but on my part, at times, that's 32 seconds. Blessings, Beth

You have my permission to use my photos of Headstones in your own genealogy. It would be nice if you'd give me a little credit, but, let's get real, how am I to know? "Photo of headstone courtesy of Findagrave Contributor Beth in Colorado (#47321605)" works for me!

I love looking for family, no matter how far removed. It's just flat fun! My main interest, however, are Geer's, Hodge's, Hampton's, Cargo's, Walker's, Simmons', Sala's, Snyder's, and any attachments of said families.

While researching my family on, the never ending story, right?, I found the Chicago Tribune's Obituary section. I've taken to putting entries from there on to Findagrave. Can I say I love the names in Chicago? I also noted burials from church records in Philadelphia that are also on I'm going to go back and start in-putting those records on Findagrave, too.

I became a little hooked on taking pictures out in Union Highland Cemetery in Florence, Colorado back in 2011. I do so love UHC. One day I'll have photos of every Headstone out there up on Findagrave, and will have connected my peeps buried out there to each other. It was the Little Ones who got me hooked. "Where's your Momma, Baby? Where's your Papa?" Drove me nuts, so I started trying to find Momma's and Daddy's. I'm now a lost cause.

All of this with a full-time job that I'm on-call for 24/7, bowling on Thursdays (which I really suck at, but somebody's got to be the Team Handicap), gardening (both flowers & veggies), and riding bikes with my husband, John, in the mountains on my beloved Harley, Pookah.

Enjoy! And I hope I've helped you in your own searching.

So, this is how I get started on tracking and linking the Folks in Union Highland Cemetery.

1. I notice the Vahldick's and Cowperthwaite's are buried in the same Lot. Gee, why is that?

2. There's only one other Vahldick in the Cemetery, Miss Sadie, and, why lookie there!, her grave is right next to Edward & Mary Ann Cowperthwaite waaaay on the other side of the cemetery. Two separate Vahldick's by two separate Cowperthwaite's. Bet that means something.

3. Harold's father was born in Illinois; his mother was born in England. Sadie Vahldick was born in England IF she is a Cowperthwaite.

3. In the 1910, 1920 & 1930 census', Mr. Harold Vahldick is living with Mr. David R. Davis. Harold is David's nephew. Oh, gee! Mr. David R. Davis's Lot is right behind Mr. Harold R. Vahldick's plot. Nephew, huh? That means Mr. David R. Davis is married to Harold's mother's sister.

4. Mr. David R. Davis is married to Miss Joan. I'll bet Miss Joan is a Cowperthwaite, etc. etc.

Looking for John & Mary Blankenships
Hi Beth,
My name is Michael Stock; Zora Mae Blankenship was my Dadís (Leland Stock) mother. Sorry if Iíve totally confused you it was just an attempt to identify myself.

In June I hope to be (as itís said) walking in the footsteps of my ancestors. Iíll be in the Florence area and later on to Dade County Missouri to visit the area my Grandmother, Zora Mae, was born.

I especially want to find John and Mary Blankenshipís grave site. I need to pay my respects and thank them for raising my Dad; they probably didnít realize or know just what a fantastic job they did.

If I may ask; do you have the Union Highland Cemeteryís phone number? I would like to speak with someone in charge of the cemetery so, I can find out the hours it is open to the public. I will be in the area on Saturday and Sunday June 4th & 5th and donít know if the gate(s) are locked on the weekends.

Another question, is there any way of determining where Section 5, Lot 59 is located? I ask because I too do volunteer work for Find-a-Grave and I know how difficult it can be in locating grave sites.

Hope to hear from you,
Thank you,
Michael Stock

He is buried in the same section as his mother Julia L Moore. I plan to purchase headstones for his mother, step-father and uncle. I need to know if he has one or not, to purchase one for him as well. He does have a brother in the same cemetery who does have a headstone. Thank You. I appreciate all the work you've done. I also would like to somehow get a copy of the plat plan for Lakeside Cemetery. If there is one could you please email me a copy at

Hi Beth:

I noticed today that you left a personal message for this person and I wondered if you knew him or about his family..I am trying to work out genealogy as to his mother, Angeline Barnes, a relative of mine through her brother, Orlando, my GGGF. I had an email yesterday from one of BP McCormick's descendants saying Angeline Barnes had been married to a Samuel A. Davis. I'm just interested in any information you have on Angeline, and if none, please excuse my question. Thank you for your time and attention. All the very best, Cris Brown

Transfer request # 105719041 & # 105719090
Hello, Beth,

Ellen Lora Willis Scarlett (# 105719041) and John Jackson Scarlett (# 105719090) are the paternal grandparents of my husband, Michael Scarlett. Mike is the son of Randall Scarlett, who was the youngest child of Jack and Ellen. We purchased their headstone about 6 years ago, as we had been to the cemetery in Colorado in 2006, and they did not have one. (We live in Missouri.)

Will you please transfer both memorials to me?

Thanks for all you do!
