Bio Photo Cemeteries are "a memorial and a record. (They are) not a mere field in which the dead are stowed away unknown; it is a touching and beautiful history, written in family burial plots, in mounded graves, in sculptured and inscribed monuments. (They tell) the story of the past, not of its institutions, or its wars, or its ideas, but of its individual lives,--of its men and women and children, and of its household. (A cemetery) is silent, but eloquent; it is common, but it is unique. We find no such history elsewhere; there are no records in all the wide world in which we can discover so much that is suggestive, so much that is pathetic and impressive." ~~ Joseph Anderson, American clergyman (1836-1916)

Retired & loving it! ~~ Using Find a Grave guidelines, if you wish me to transfer management, or edit/add information, please ask via Edit tab/SAC link. ~~ If you wish to use my copyrighted photos, you must provide photo credit. ~~ Thanks to the Findagrave staff who run this website. ~~ Happy searching.

Nov 2013: I have limited doing photo requests as it has become increasingly difficult based on many of the local cemetery offices questioning the validity/legitimacy of providing photos online. Contact me if you have a special request.

It appears that he was a private in Co. H, 54th Regiment Georgia infantry that signed up in Columbus. I am in the process of completing a history of the 54th Georgia and plan to include find a grave information where I can find it.

Thank you so much for all the effort you put into finding this grave and adding the photos. I am not the creator, I have not contributed in any way, but my son served with this man as well as the young man who was killed with him, Sgt Aaron Cutler Elandt 8887917. I was blessed in that my son returned home. I believe in honouring those who gave their lives and those who served with them. Thank you for your extra ordinary efforts. If we can be of service to you in Australia, my home now, please let me know. I find it sad you are having a hard time with cemeteries not being open to publishing photos - I wish you all the best.
Warm regards,

Linda Ames' photos of the lot are lovely - except that they are of the wrong lot. They show the lot for the family Jesse G. BOGGS family and his wife's family, the KNIGHTONs (Lot 40 in Section 7). The entry in the Sexton's card file for Sam shows:

Samuel BOGGS, male, died aged 67 years of dysentery at 502 Fourteenth Street, Columbus, Ga.; interred 7-27-1909 in the east half of Lot 43 in Section 7.

Also buried in this lot are his wife Ann (PATE) BOGGS, as well as six-month-old Louie Jasper CLEGG, evidently their grandson. I would add photos here of the lot where Sam and Ann are buried, but there is no room for additional photos on this memorial. I did post some on the memorials for Ann and Louie. I expect that Sam will have a marker on his grave in two or three months, as I will be sending off an application for one from the Veterans Administration shortly.
