Cemeteries are "a memorial and a record. (They are) not a mere field in which the dead are stowed away unknown; it is a touching and beautiful history, written in family burial plots, in mounded graves, in sculptured and inscribed monuments. (They tell) the story of the past, not of its institutions, or its wars, or its ideas, but of its individual lives,--of its men and women and children, and of its household. (A cemetery) is silent, but eloquent; it is common, but it is unique. We find no such history elsewhere; there are no records in all the wide world in which we can discover so much that is suggestive, so much that is pathetic and impressive." ~~ Joseph Anderson, American clergyman (1836-1916) |
For a very touching poem, see "Dear Ancestor" by Walter Butler Palmer.
Please use Find a Grave guidelines, if you wish me to transfer management, or edit/add information (please ask via Edit tab/SAC link). ~~
I believe obituaries provide much needed genealogical information that if not captured will be lost. With the increase in cremations, obituaries might be all that outlives our ancestors. Since obituaries are already published in newspapers and on the internet, anonymity has already been compromised.

Hi was looking for one of my relatives in Mt. Olive church cemetery Dave Merideth and I noticed you took the photo for this headstone. I just found a death certificate for my Dave Merideth but it had no birth date only a death date of December 16th, 1934. I just placed it on here also. I don't know if they are the same people.
Do you recall a Lettice Merideth this is his wife, next to his grave. Because I have her death certificate and it said she was buried there also. I just submitted her information on here with the death certificate.
Please let me know at firstname.lastname@example.org or on here. Thanks!

Thank you for your email.
I apologize for the delay, as I have not been on this site in years. I appreciate your kind gesture, and would be grateful if you transfered my grandfather's memorial to me.
Please advise at your convenience.
Again, thank you.

Hi, Linda - Several years ago you left a message for Ed Tante, Contributor #46792660:
inquiring as to whether or not he was still active on FindAGrave. Did you recall if you heard back from him? Thanks - John

I added two photos for John Spark's memorial page: one of the family monument and one of his grave marker. Call me weird, but I love being able to provide photos for people, as much as I enjoy having others provide photos for my memorials. :-)

In response to a photo request by Anne Mabbott, I added photos to the memorial for Agnes Spark. Her husband, John, is buried nearby, so I took a picture of his marker, as well.
I'd be happy to post it to his memorial, if you wish. Just let me know.

I am a Vermont Civil War buff, and am presently working on a project to identify the last resting places of many of our "Old Soldiers" that had ties to Vt. May I use the photo's that you have contributed to Find A Grave Memorials for several such Veterans? George Bickford, Stephen Drown, Daniel West, andJ.T.Pierce ( there may be others I haven't discovered yet. I would like to post them on the Vt.Civil War site.( www.vermontcivilwar.org)
You will receive credit for this.
Thank you for your consideration.
