Profession: Engineer (at the University of Michigan) |
Passion: Historian... both family history and Bible history... too bad work gets in the way. =~)
I've been collecting family history for as long as I can remember. My great grandmother Emma Jane Yarian FLOHR lived for 96 years... and loved to tell old stories. She got me interested in genealogy back in late 60's, before I'd turned 10. Most branches go back several hundred years... some fascinating history.
Most of my collection has been uploaded for others to enjoy! Check them out...

Hi, you are most definitely a relative to my husband and children. Richard is my husband's grandfather. This is through his marriage to Zelphia Clem (last name of second husband). They had two children, Eula "June" (husband's mother) and Joe Farley.

THANK YOU for your time in taking and uploading the photos for James R. and Peggy J. Deaton, much appreciated!
I found, and added another Featherstone marker while I was over trying for photo request.
Lawson Henry Featherstone
I was not sure if he might be related to you, or not.

I have to go to Shelby, NC to visit some of my relative's graves soon, and I will try to locate Hamrick Family Cemetery. From what I have been able to find out, it has only stones as markers, and is close to Cleveland Memorial Park Cemetery.
If I do locate it, I will get photos of whatever is there.

I finally found the monument! I took quite a few high resolution photos, which I will send to you. The etching on the stone is almost impossible to read, even in person, and there is a different name on three sides of it.
I can barely make out Harvey, and Martha, but there is also a CM Dilling on one side.
I only posted the full monument photos, at different sides, and you are welcome to post the close ups if you like. I am going to play with my photo program to see if I can enhance the photo enough to read, but I don't hold much hope for that.
Now, that I know where it is, I may go back in the spring and try to do a foil rubbing. I hope you can read the stone close-ups. I tried with and without flash, but the engraving is next to impossible to see.

I just located confirmation that these graves are in Oakwood Cemetery. I know the general location, now, and will go back soon to get photos.
There are headstones, but they might be hard to read. I will get several photos, of each, to post.

I tried again today to locate their graves. I walked the cemetery, once more, but could not locate them. If you have information indicating they are there, please share it with me, and I may be able to dig deeper into local records.
I went to the courthouse, and viewed some records available for Harvey, and Martha ( which included a great many deeds, for the entire family ) but nothing indicating that they bought cemetery plots.
Gaston county cemetery, and burial records before 1935 were lost, but I did find out that you can view records online for deeds. If you would like the web address, please let me know. Gaston county was once part of Lincoln county, so my next step is to search there.
