I visited Find-A-Grave for years filling in blanks on my family tree. Now that I am retired, I decided to become a contributor too. I want to "pay it forward" by helping others find their relatives buried here in central Oklahoma. |
My most recent trip to Green County Kentucky was this past October (2013). Took over 3000 photos of small hidden cemeteries and beautiful countryside. Many thanks go to my cousins, Carolyn Scott, Mark McCrady, and Ray Perkins for their assistance in locating and photographing these stones!
My goal is to put up burials, add links when possible, and add good QUALITY photographs so that others can learn about their ancestors. I welcome more information or additional links.
I look at Find-a-Grave as my new "job" because I get to work with people who have a common purpose and love of what they are doing. I have found friends and unknown cousins here and hope to find more! The 99% of helpful, friendly, and cooperative people I find here more than out weigh the couple of people I have run into who are vicious and hateful. You will run into them, but know they are the minority here.
NOTE - I WILL GLADLY TRANSFER ANY MEMORIALS I OWN IN CAVE HILL CEMETERY, JEFFERSON COUNTY KY
A FEW TIPS FOR TAKING GOOD TOMBSTONE PICTURES:
1. Take a photo of the entire tombstone first, then get a close-up of the name if it is hard to read on the whole view. Try to fill the frame with the stone and not the surrounding countryside, homes, cars, etc.
2. Look for your reflection in the tombstone BEFORE you take the picture!
3. Squat in order to get on the same level as the tombstone - don't stand and shoot down at a sharp angle.
4. If the stone is vertical, take the picture vertically - it will display on the memorial much larger than horizontally.
We are trying to preserve history so we want the very best pictures possible - it may be all that survives!
** My photos may be used for any nonprofit purpose - ONLY IF - you give credit by listing your source so others can find it. Noting the source INCLUDES the photographer's name, and the Find-a-Grave memorial number or website.**
GENEALOGY - I am very interested in meeting more cousins! If any one is related to persons in my family I would greatly appreciate you contacting me.
Some of my family surnames:
KENTUCKY - Durrett, Skaggs, Pierce, Bloyd, Thompson, Cantrell, Elmore, Chaudoin
ILLINOIS - Mingee, Thornton, Gilreath, McNeese, Harris, Strader, McCrady
TEXAS & LOUISIANA - Flenniken, Jones, Humphrey, Morgan, Boone

Hi :) Yay, it seems I'm walking in your footsteps :) Have you completed any blocks? I know of Cyndie, Janet LaMotte, you, and I are are walking Summit View. my email is email@example.com
Please let me know what blocks you have walked. I have Janet's and just got Cyndie's email. Maybe if we do different areas, we can get it done :) I live in Bethany, so I have been only going once a week(weather permitting) When I load a picture on my computer, I have been checking against site. It seems "graves" adds memorials, but doesn't check against to see if already added. I also have www.familysearch.org (it's free!) that I use to look at the census and marriage licenses. It's a really easy to use site. I walked yesterday in section 1, block 11. Send me an email, and we can coordinate :) thanks Angie

Thank you so much for taking the time to find this photo for me. I have just started taking pictures for Find a Grave and know it can be time consuming to search for headstones, but it feels so great to help other people do something it would be difficult to do themselves. I hope when I retire to go into this full time as well! Thanks again!
Thank you for transferring family to me. I appreciate it.
