I got hook on genealogy after talking to my Grandfather (George E. Deskins) about the "Good Old Days" and how he had a story about everyone and everything. I started by researching only my immediate family but it has escalated to years of research, meeting wonderful people, hearing amazing stories and with much help from other dedicated researchers. After joining FAG it keeps getting better and better.
I hope that all of realize that we all are related and should treat everyone the way we want to be treated.
My main research is on all the Deskin, Deskins and Deskines lines, but I also do Jackson and Matney
This wonderful tool of FAG is out of this world, I want to thank all the fabulous people that have help me in so many ways. I would not of had the opportunity to meet many of my relatives, as well as others if not for FAG. There is no way I can ever thank many of you, researcher before me, people willing to share info as well as photos and their lives.
I would also like to make a point, this is not a genealogical site, but it gives us a wonderful opportunity to connect our relatives, showing really how small our world is, so I hope that some that feel they don't want to transfer for whatever reason and this is your right, perhaps think that MOST of us, do not do it for numbers but because we appreciate the honor of caring for our relatives like I do. When I hear about my relatives even thou I have never met them, it's like knowing them. Hope this makes sense.

RE: Herman Deskins
My mother (Ruby Mutter), told me that Herman used to have a pair of bronze baby shoes from the time he married Ethel that he kept put up and no one could mess with and he would never say who they belonged to.Don't know if this is a story you wanted or not but thought I would share.

RE: Herman Deskins
The story of Herman having 2 sons was not known even by my mother until Ethel died in December. Herman's brother said they live in Indiana I believe but I was given no names of the boys or the mother. I will try to call Earnest Deskins tomorrow and ask for more information or nothing else see if it's ok to give you his number, he can be a cranky old man sometimes lol.

RE: Deskins
I have pictures on my family tree on ancestry. I have plenty of pictures of Herman. He resides in the cambridge house in Bristol, Tennessee. he lived with me and my family for a year, but he can no longer walk. But I go see him just about daily,he turned 91 on December 21.Herman and Ethel had no children together her four children (my mother included) were by her first marriage to Evertt Mutter. I have been told by his brother Earnest that he has two sons, this I just learned when my grandmother passed away. So he did not raise them as his if he does have 2 sons. His mother was Susie Florence Addair father was John Wallace Deskins. His brother Thorton passed away while Herman was in my home 2years ago. He has a brother J.C. Deskins whom lives in Atwell west Virginia which is where Herman was born he never left Atwell until he married my grandmother in 1971. ( I have a copy of the marriage certificate). Earnest lives in Virginia his wife Hazel and my Grandmother were sisters. His sister Betty lives in west Virginia. Those are the one's I can contact. There is also sisters Marie and Margaret one of them lives in Florida. I have pictures on facebook if you use fb. Sorry if this seems sloppy but I'm on my cell phone.

I am related to the Picklesimers I transferred to you but only distantly. I have been researching the descendants of Johan George Bechtelsheimer and all his descendants (all spelling variations) for more than 10 years. Point your browser to to see some of what I have compiled on this family.

RE: Question
Well, it is "rumored" that my grandma got pregnant as a teenager, then put the baby on a man that wasn't the dad, and he still doesn't know to this day.

The real dad (my real grandpa) is rumored to be a Deskins of the Urbana, OH area in the late 50's, according to my Aunt. My mom is the one who told me of this tale at first, and she heard the rumor from my Grandma's parents, who really would've known.

But there's no way of really knowing without a DNA match. The name my Aunt gave me was an Elmer Deskins, again, heard through a grapevine and could be false.
